Just this past Friday Sheed posted on twitter that KG was calling him but he's not going to Boston. Now if your looking for a source you can't get anyone better then Sheed himself.

I like that Sheed is:

Willing to accept the MLE and come to Boston

Tall (6'11" or 7')
Gets more steals per game than turnovers
Averages 1.3 blocks per game
Can man up and play solid defense against players like Dwight Howard
Has championship experience
Can stretch the defense out to the 3 point line, which opens up the middle

1. Good post D on the likes of Dwight Howard, which is very important. Perk did a GREAT job in the playoffs, but you can never have enough big bodies to throw at guys like him.

2. He spreads the floor. He can hit the 3, allowing all sorts of matchup problems when guys like Howard/Shaq have to guard him, which opens up the lane for Rondo/Marbs.

3. Intensity. While we may blow the record out of the water for team technicals, I think Sheed playing with the Big 3 will motivate him to have a great season.

4. He's the best realistic FA we can go after to fit our needs.

5. He doesn't have to be the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd option. Which he may see as a negative, but at his age, he can play a role and Doc can control his minutes to keep him fresh and effective.

I would love to get Sheed. I think he's a great fit for us. Come on Danny, make it happen.

Sheed also just makes us so versatile.

Perk can play well with KG or Sheed on the floor.
KG can play well with Perk or Sheed.
Powe can play well with KG or Sheed.
Scal can even play well with Perk or Sheed.

So many options for big man rotations.

This also means KG will see little to no time at all at C which is a huge plus.

Compared to BBD, Powe and Scal:

Sheed doesnt turn the ball over as much, which I think is one of the Celtics bigger weaknesses.

Sheed is stronger off the Defensive glass though Powe is a better all round rebounder.

Sheed is a slightly better passer, which should work well in our ball movement offense.

Sheeds defense isnt where it was, but isnt a downgrade when compared to these 3.

Sheed extendes the defense more with his 3 point shooting. Will pull a big shot blocker like Howard away from the lane and allow Rondo to penetrate similiar to what he did against Chicago.

Compared to Garnett and Perkins,

Again, extends the defense because neither of those to are 3 point threats.

Is an upgrade to Perk in the Turnover category.

We hold his own on the defensive board with these guys, offensive rebounding will be an issue because he plays so far away from the rim.

Shot blocking is about the same as Garnett but overall defense falls short of these two.

The Rondo penetration thing is key, IMO. As far as I'm concerened, the Celtics should adopt the same plocy that tthe Spurs have had for years with Parker: "If you can't play with Rondo, we don't need you". Parker is main reason that the Spurs have made sure to have a floor spreading 4 all these years. With Tony's forte being penetration, that meant that the 4 man needed to take up that slack for the thing to work. They might start a game off with a mid range shooting big alongside Duncan, but money time was a 3pt shooting 4. This season the "Horry role" was filled by the Red Rocket, and even Michael Finley at times.

Thiis where having a 3pt shooting big like Sheed is invaluable. He doesn't hurt you on the defensive end, and he speards that floor out. That is also why the Spurs are very much inetersted in getting him. He'd be a perfect fit for them, just as he would be for us. Same reason, really. The Dallas thing seems to be Cuban and company being desperate to make that whole thing finally work. I don't think that it would.

The only think I'm concerned about is having a post defender that can block shots.

Last year we saw we can survive with one on the floor in Perkins. Although it was nothing like having two on the floor in KG and Perk.

Bring in Sheed. And 90% of the game we have 2 out there. 100% of the game we have at least 1, and that makes a defense go.

I don't expect Sheed to give it his all in the regular season, and he'll seem just okay with his nonchalante play. But come playoff time, like Posey did... he'll be invaluable.

Lets not even get into the point that he adds another post player that we desperately need. Last year we had none after Powe went down. When we won a ring we had two [KG and Powe]. With Sheed again we have two.

It really just raises us to the level of crazy talented.

Right now with VC, the way Nelson shoots, and Dwight Howard ORL is raised to that level.

CLE can be raised to that level in the playoffs with a motivated Shaq.

And we'll be right there with a Sheed. Hopefully we keep Marbury too for good measure.

I'll also take my chances with a KG,Perk,Sheed combo over a Gasol/Bynumn/Odom combo. Because wiht our combo, at least you know all 3 will provide the shot blocking even if Sheed's offense is off... with Odom you don't have that insurance.

I love the fact that I can count on him to show up every fourth or fifth game!

Like KG, Pierce, and Allen, Sheed doesn't need the ball to be effective. That's probably his biggest asset. Healthy Celtics + Rasheed = #18.

He's 6'11'', can defend the post against virtually any player, he has 3pt range which helps keep the defense honest which allows for more pick and roll and drive and kick.

Plus, he's won with Detroit ('04) so he understands a winning atmosphere.

And, Garnett, Perk, and Sheed >>> Gasol, Odom, Bynum all day, every day, every year, every decade.

So, yeah, I'm hoping we get Rasheed. lol

Wasn't that Ric Bucher saying that about Sheed? Seeing how he is correcting himself now.

Powe>>>>>>>Rasheed

Hopefully we do get Rasheed and he accepts a lesser role, and hopefully when Leon gets healthy, he'll be the first big off the bench and Rasheed takes an ever lesser role, but I could see it all working out.

Once Powe gets healthy, we'll have the deepest front court in the league:
KG/Perk/Powe/Sheed/BBD (If re-signs)

Return to Boston Celtics
