His option for next year was $6.2MM, so he must think he has an offer out there from someone higher than that.

He wants 8-9 but i would give him 7-8 somewhere in between. He knows he can get that but I think he is expecting more...

I think he just wants a long-(er) term deal.

Which really sucks, he could have helped us out immensely taking that PO.

I would rather have Charlie V. Im tired of the Cavs playing 5-4 on offense. First with Ben Wallace as the starter and then Andy V. Remember when we started Eric Snow at point guard?? For crying out loud give me someone who can actually play....not these scrubs who are one dimensional.

^Yep. He will get a longer term deal. Maybe not as much money next season but more $ guaranteed.

If Andy thinks he's worth 8-9 mil/ season he's mistaken. Nobody will pay that much for an energy guy in this economy. He's worth more to the Cavs than any other team and I seriously doubt the Cavs would pay him 8-9 mil.

LOL!

Well get used to playing 5-4 on defense.

If you don't want Varejao because he's one dimensional, than that would mean you wouldn't want him either.

Andy offense = Charlie defense

Did they not say the same about Mo Williams?? Turns out he is not that bad of a defender.

Mike Browns system can make him better.

Also - who has more potential right now? Andy? Not even close. The guy has reached his peak IMO

AV was a major disappointment in the ECFS. I think he's going to be surprised he gets offered.

CV is intriguing, but you're incorrect IMO...

The interior players have more responsibility and are more important... Strong interior defense > Strong perimeter defense... It's not the same as Mo.

Also, Mike Brown does not have some kind of magical defensive technique or anything along those lines...If that was the case, Drew Gooden, being a PF with great size (6-10) with nice touch, a solid jumper, and the ability to run the floor-- would probably still be a Cavalier...

Some guys just get it, and some don't... CV's basketball IQ is highly questionable...

A few points:

1) We did not lose the ECF because we were a bad defensive team. Yes it was a bad matchup that led to easy shots, but we lost because outside of LB we had zero offensive output. Insert CV31

2) Drew Gooden was the most inconsistent player on the planet, offensively and defensively. That sweet jumper you speak of only came around once every four games. CV, as posted in another thread, is very consistent on the offensive end when given appropriate minutes. I think comparing the two, even though they are similar, is a bit of a stretch.

3) Lets face it, we will only be able to sign one of them. So pay Andy 8-9 million who is one dimensional and has hit his peak? Or pay CV 5-6 million who has much more potential.

That was last season though.. Zero barring moving forward..

Nah, not really.. First off, I didn't say he had a sweet jumper.. Secondly, it was a comparison in terms of defense, so it's not really a stretch considering they're both below average defenders, who play the PF position.. CV is more dynamic in the sense that he can stretch the floor... Other than that, basketball IQ's and the inability to be a top notch interior defender are spot on..

It's a tough choice for sure.. I would lean towards CV myself...

But, what, wasn't a weakness a year ago in terms of defense at the 4, does now become one if you go that route...

I think he picked a bad year to come out. There are way too many big men who are FAs and not enough money. Andy and his agent probably miscalculated. He was set to receive $6.2M which is much higher than the MLE of $5.585M, over $600K. Then he could be a FA next year when the possibilities are greater. Plus alot of teams have soured on him when D. Howard destroyed him in the playoffs. He is also about as physically as weak as Z. Andy never spent 5 minutes in a weight room and it shows. He has no muscle, just skin and bones. Since Andy is not an NBA starting PF, his max value is probably the MLE to most teams if they have an interest. Look at the Big men FAs list:

P. Millsap
David Lee
Raheed Wallace
A. McDyess
Channing Frye
Shawn Marion
H. TurkeyGlue
C. Wilcox
Brian Skinner

We can sign CV with the MLE and are allowed to go over the cap to sign Andy so we can sign both i believe...

Yes but I think it would limit our ability to sign a max player in 2010. I could be wrong though....
