There is just no room for him to get minutes.

Before anyone talks about who should stay or who else should come in, simply make a depth chart w/ minutes and you'll realize we really don't need any more players nor can we really take on any other player unless we move some first

Um, did ANYBODY see how much of a beast Ike Diogu was when he got a chance to play very late in the season? We need this guy back. Give him some minutes!

The thing about Diogu is that hes like a 10-yard fake out chick. From a distance the girl looks smokin hot but when she gets closer she doesnt look the greatest, thus being a 10-yard fake out. Diogu can end up the same way, he looks great in those last two games but as time goes and he gets more minutes and he doesnt put up the numbers like he did those two games, thats when he doesnt looks the greastest and people will backfire on him.

I absolutely wouldn't mind keeping Diogu around. I also wouldn't mind keeping Bobby around, but I wouldn't expect us to.

Jackson gone. Simmons prolly gone. McCants I believe is questionable because of his athleticism and raw talent. I would love to re-sign Diogu, but considering his contract value and our current roster he may be the odd man out similar to Simmons. Correct me if I'm wrong but currently under contract or soon to be under contract are:

Kevin Martin (SG)***
Andres Nocioni (SF)***
Beno Udrih (PG)***
Spencer Hawes (PF/C)***
Francisco Garcia (SG/SF)***
Jason Thompson (PF)***
Sergio Rodriguez (PG)***
Donte Greene (SF)***
Tyreke Evans (PG/SG)***
Omri Casspi (SF)
Kenny Thomas (PF)
Jon Brockman (PF)
*** - Denotes 9-man rotation

This would be our rotation I believe as of today. Question marks loom around Casspi, Kenny Thomas and Jon Brockman IMO. I'm not sure if Casspi is playing for us this year or not - if he doesn't I think it's important to re-sign Diogu for depth purposes. Kenny has not seen much PT the past few seasons, but we are stuck with him at least for now. I do not know what to expect from Jon Brockman - he's a cheap spot on the bench but is listed at only 6'7" and I think he could have a lot of trouble playing in the NBA. 6 hard fouls is all I expect thus far.

With that said, I think it is really necessary to get a backup Center through FA regardless. It is obvious he wouldn't get a ton of minutes but we need somebody with more height that is dependable to hold it down whenever the coach needs it. I've thought all along the perfect guy could be Francisco Elson. May be a little pricier than some would like, but seriously just about anybody who is cheaper IMO would be a complete waste of time.

As far as some mentioning to save our money for next off-season instead of signing additional players - The last few years have been plagued by injuries throughout the entire course of the season. Beno, Kevin, Garcia, Hawes...they all missed some time. Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot here, we need additional depth. I don't want to splurge on FA's, but we'll need an addional body or two. Plus, by next season Thomas will be off the books and that will give us breathing room. Possibly trading Nocioni and/or Beno before the deadline will also make our pockets deeper. And since I'm on the subject of FA next off-season, I hate to be negative but I just don't see us getting a player "that great" anyways - and I don't mean LeBron, Wade, Bosh...etc. I'm talking players under that level of stardom. Face it, the team still won't have a lot of expectations and with the whole arena deal in the air, Maloofs financial problems, and coaches job security...I don't see top players seriously wanting to sign. We'd have to overpay whoever we get.
can we just get a new arena already...

Well Diogu is the best of the bunch there, he can play in this league and he's shown it all the time, but he's short and would become a liability on a playoff team. He can be resigned but it would be at the expense of developing a center like Simmons (who sucks and got dunked on by a scrub.) In other words it's a tough call.

Just keep Ike and finish our roster off with his signing. He can play 4 and 5. That's what we need. He's cheap and his production could be very high. We see what he can do and make a long term decision on him next year.

I'd realistically like to see all of Diogu, Simmons, and McCants back. But there is no question about it, you bring back the guy that put it down on Nene like no King has before.

The other thing is that Ike would realistically become at least part of the rotation, McCants is at position in which we are completely loaded and would never play.

Bring back Ike! Are you listening this time Petrie!

Per the bee:

"While the Kings have no interest in re-signing McCants, they plan to approach Diogu about returning."

http://www.sacbee.com/kings/story/1991250.html

Interesting, no shock neither players QO was excercised, but it's good to hear Petrie hasn't totally lost his mind as it seems he's at least interested in bringing Ike back.

^^You beat me to posting that link.

Simmons and B-Jax are non-factors. Both were expiring contracts and won't be back. I'm not surprised that we didn't extend QOs for both Ike and McCants and I have no problem watching McCants go elsewhere. Let's face it, there's just no room for him on this roster. As for Ike, I hope Petrie can work a cheep deal for him. We still need a big body inside and Ike fills that bill. Not much to lose to bring him in for a couple years for about $2M per year.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

I don't think Diougu alone is enough, we need more big men, which makes the case for the guards really weak.

Diogu is the only guy I think were guna keep. The other guys I dont see coming back. I like B-Jax but I think he will make the logical choice and go back to a team that has a shot at something.
