Hoopsworld said it is projected to drop to $57.3M, which is a drop of ~$1.5M. Not anywhere near 10%.

The salary cap is not expected to change much from last season’s $58.7 million, but it could drop by 10 percent next season, by some estimates. The luxury-tax threshold could also fall, forcing teams to rein in spending now.

I bolded the important part.

And whose estimates? Are there really people out there projecting a $52.8M salary cap? I'd be interested in actually seeing who is projecting that sort of salary cap, since the NYT article fails to specify.

What kind of world do we live in where we're arguing the credibility of Hoopsworld Vs. The New York Times? :-)

--- Funny, isn't it? But the Times has slid pretty badly in terms of credibility. Declining financial; resources also means that for specialized reporting, such as this, they don't have the staff with contacts they used to have. Less senior (read: expensive) staff, more freelancers (young:cheap), more wire copy rewritten by the loca desk - it's 21st century journalism

he was here twice. i dont see why he wouldnt want to come back. he looked good last year and recently the suns have been the #1 destination for old players to rejuvenate.

I also read that the luxury tax payments to teams under the tax will decrease greatly, so it isn't as great of an incentive to be under the tax line, which is why teams like the Spurs said F it and went above the tax.

It would be really nice to see a legit rumor in regards to this. All we have seen now is a lot of BS being spread around. This story has just got out of control at this point just like every other Amare trade rumor outside of the GS deal.

I wouldn't mind Amare on the team in exchange for Smoove. At this point I just see no deal working. Suns may try to hold out for Teague and Horford. I know for a fact Hawks are not trading Horford. If you are wonder how I know its called common sense. A young big under his rookie contract for 2 more years. Then with Teague the team has already went through the PC and everything else introducing him. Plus they rushed the pick up to Stern. Reading between the lines they are very happy to have him.

The only other options the Hawks got beside Smoove is Chill rights,1st round pick,David Andersen,2nd round pick from last week and I guess Mo Evans. Is that enough for Amare? It might be and it might not be. Any rumors outside of what I just listed should be shot down and/or ignored altogether.

I will laugh at any team in the league that pays Ariza 8mil a year.

This may sound odd, becuase a million dollars is a sh8tlaod of money, but really - if you honestly think Ariza is the guy you need to make a difference, as i think he would on the Suns, what's the deal with "overpaying" him slightly, approx 15%?
A player is worth what you're willing to pay based on what you believe he can do for you. Was Shawn Marion worth $17 million? To the Suns, yeah. To someone else, maybe not.
A lot of value is situational

Bucher said Turkoglu's going to get max 8 or 9 in this market....meaning Ariza can come for 5-6 mil a year.

I wuould kill for a lineup of Nash/Barbosa/Ariza/Amare/Chandler

We'd be a top 3 seed with that lineup.

I'd love to see that lineup too but I am pretty sure Ariza will get more than $6mil

Ariza would be fantastic if he could be tempted to a Barbosa contract.
