$20M for Jarrett Jack

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Sat Jun 20, 2009 4:12 am

should the Hawks offer a 5 year $20M deal to Jarrett Jack?

based on what Reggie Miller said, i don't think the Pacers would match.

this deal would effectly hand over the keys to Jack and make him our projected PG of the future.

Yes I would give Jack that in a heartbeat but I don't think that's enough to get him.

Not enough IMO either. JJack is going to ask for at least the MLE if he can't get a long term deal.
His numbers could possibly rival Bibby and Kidd this offseason.

What? Indiana isn't going to let their starting PG go. You might be able to get TJ Ford, but he is way overpaid. Calderon was soooo much better that last year they played together.

He's restricted. If he signed that offer sheet I am fairly certain that the Pacers match in a heartbeat.

I don't think $4 mill is enough to steal him away. Offering him or Sessions the MLE wouldn't be horrible though. Jack is a better fit next to Johnson though, I think.

Overpay him and the Pacers won't match.....as to how much the Pacers consider "overpaid" is unknown.

"Pacers Make Qualifying Offers to Jack and McRoberts"

Hawks could still make an offer in the $20M-$25M range.

told you guys you should beleive Reggie Miller.

Whisper: Jarrett Jack is not a PG. He's a high turnover SG that refuses to play off the ball. /End whisper.

Hey ATL fans, any word on Marvin Williams and a qualifying offer?

I'm sure a qualifying offer was extended to Marvin to secure negotiating rights.

I would think that Jarrett Jack is no longer a consideration given the recent moves of the Hawks. My logic is that extending an offer for all or most of the MLE to a guard that is likely going to be matched would tie up the funds for a week and if not matched it leaves little option to shore up the front line which we saw in the playoffs could get very thin with injury. We can exceed the MLE to resign Bibby and still have the MLE to help elsewhere. The same logic would apply to Felton and Sessions. We're unlikely to extend an offer unless our free agents sign elsewhere creating a hole to be addressed.

Hawks did do QO's to Marvin, Solomon and Mario West. They just didn't publicize it. Sekou Smith mentioned it on the Hawks blog.

Good to see we're keeping my man Mario around. Why did we bother with Solo?

I doubt Sekou Smith bothered to check if Jones got the QO. As I recall last season lots of people didn't believe me when I said that Salim wasn't extended a QO because Sekou was still saying he was a RFA.

Jarrett Jack

Post#16 » by evildallas » Thu Jul 2, 2009 2:50 pm

Small rumor from Dime, make of it what you will.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are targeting Jarrett Jack, who could start at PG if Atlanta loses Mike Bibby and Mike Woodson does the smart thing and brings Jamal Crawford off the bench as a volume scorer link

Personally I didn't think we could offer enough that would not get matched, so I'm not sure I believe the report.

Plus 1 as another Blazer fan on Jack. He would be the worst PG you can think of at running the break.

Toronto bound?
Indiana officials on Saturday night were waiting to formally get the offer sheet Pacers restricted free-agent guard Jarrett Jack signed with Toronto. But they were preparing for the likelihood of not matching an offer reportedly worth $20 million over four years.

"If it's more than $4 million (average per season), I would think we wouldn't match it," said a Pacers source who was speaking when the source knew the deal was for four years but didn't yet know the total amount.

CBSSports.com first reported Jack's offer sheet, but did not report how much it is worth. ESPN.com later reported it worth $20 million.

If the Pacers don't match during the allotted seven days, the Raptors likely would get a backup behind starting point guard Jose Calderon after Anthony Parker bolted to Cleveland as a free agent. Link

I did not see that blog post anywhere. Sekou said that he hears "crickets" on the Marvin QO situation.

To not publicize Marvin's $7.355 million QO, if it were made, doesn't make sense. Maybe not Solomon's or Mario's much lesser QO, which I think haven't extended either yet. But I don't think Solo or Mario's QO won't be resolved until next month...we will see. The Hawks have key FA's to deal with before extending bench players QO's.
