I was thinking the same thing, but if Bill Walker steps up and we have Sheed and Marbury that's pretty good.

I would rather have Walker and Giddens to step up. They should be ready after the SL.

Can someone provide me a link to our summer league team? I want to check out the roster, but haven't been able to find a link.

After the sorry performance from our bench in this year's (and even some of last year's) playoffs, I'm looking for something a little more reliable...Grant Hill, etc. Hopefully, Danny's thinking the same thing. If Walker and Giddens don't like it, they're free to try to beat out the newly acquired vet.

I'm ecstatic for Eddie.

He was probably the most underrated Celtic the past 2 seasons.

Besides the starting lineup, there were only 3 bench players worth a damn this year:

Eddie, Leon and Tony AND then suddenly, when KG went down,
Glen Davis became what Tommy Heinsohn always said he could.

Now if we could just get Two quality 2 way Bigs to push Glen where he deserves,
the 4th or 5th Big on the Team.

This is great news! Eddie made the right decision to stay with the Celtics. :D

I'm happy for Eddie--nice to see him stick with a team for a while.

Ahh we agree on something! :)

I like Walker too!...what an exciting young player!

It would be great to get Wallace! Hope they can pull that off!

He would give us yet another weapon from downtown....plus play the tough defence...I fear he may be too high priced though?... but what a pickup he would be!

He is trade fodder.
You could, but that also eats up half of your mid-level while keeping House allows you to have all of it remaining. I'll take House+full mid-level over a little bit better SG for half of the mid-level.

Actually, this is good for us. To my understanding you have the MLE to offer each season, with the LLE every other season. That money is luxury tax exempt. The thing is that those deals carry over to the subsequent seasons. It isn't as if his deal from least season counts against the MLE this season. If Eddie walked, though, and we had to sign a free agent, if we didn't use the MLE then that money wouldn't be luxury tax exempt, and that could be very expensive indeed. So him staying here isn't perfect, but is better than some other options. They can always package him off in a trade, too. That probably won't happen, but it isn't impossible. I could be wrong about the MLE money being used, though.

I think that the moral of the story is that you had better use your MLE wisely. I'd rather get one good guy who we could use long term each season, than split that money between low cost, inferior players on short term deals. One way you are getting higher quality talent who you can rely on long term. The other you are constantly plugging fingers into the dike trying to stop the leaking. Three good MLE acquisitions in a row can build a good bench.

MLE deals are not exempt from the tax.

Really? I thought that is why they are in place? What is the advantage then?

IF ownership is willing to pay up for another championship, this is good news.

If it crowds out the use of the MLE or LLE or something like, it can be not-so-good.

And on the optimistic-about-spending side, it also increases our set of expirings. True expirings add up to >$8.7 m, meaning we could take on a contract of $11 million. Add in Giddens, Walker, and/or cheap players who could be very briefly imported via trade exceptions, and it goes well higher than that, perhaps >$15 million in a real stretch.

There's a cap limit below the tax threshold. Teams with payroll above the cap are only allowed to add salary using an exception. The MLE and the LLE are two of these. There are also exceptions for retaining your own players and minimum players.

This is why a team like NY could have a 100 million dollar payroll despite a salary "cap" of 50 million.

P see now. I was confusing the cap with the luxury tax threshold. It allows us to go over the cap. Makes more sense now.

it was laughable to think he was "considering" using his option.

He's worth half that salary, and in no way shape or form was going to get anything but a 1 year flyer.

Now we have him on an overpaid salary. Just another part of Ainge's horrible off-season last year bitting us.

The ownership is going to pay and extra 3 million [1.5x2 for luxury] for that mistake.

IF we get Sheed and Marbs to stay however, now that's an offseason.

House is a fan-favorite, this is his first place hes stayed at, it's the only place people will care he's on, and he's a great shooter. As a fan I'm not upset at all he's here, as long as we get Sheed and Marbs here on his contract.

I'll hold my breath for a SF coming after that, there is only so much of a dream one can expect to come true [mine was Scal+ TA for Posey.... but idk how much depth at bigs we'll have for that now].
