MATRIX RELOADED, anyone?

Post#1 » by OnFire » Wed Jul 1, 2009 1:48 pm

Seen on SI.com:

• Shawn Marion's numbers shrunk over the past two years, but they could bounce back up if he were to sign with an up-tempo team that makes use of his ability to finish in the open floor.

In relation to this (also from SI.com):

The Raptors' interest hinges on what they do with forward Shawn Marion, an unrestricted free agent who is seeking a multiyear deal. The Raptors are prepared to offer Marion the full mid-level exception over four years, according to sources, but Marion is seeking a deal worth $7 million to $9 million per season. He made $17.8 million last season.

We fall under these categories.

And we need a wing guy anyways.

Nice thing about Shawn is that he can play and defend the 4-spot, too, in a small ball lineup as shown in his PHO Suns days. Really versatile.

How 'bout it? Your thoughts.

We can't offer him a deal for more than the MLE (about $5.6mm), and we probably can't even afford to do that.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Unless it's a sign and trade I can't see us spending that much money! If he's at $9 million some kind of S&T might be possible, the Raps would have to take something like JT, Murphy and ??? (they'd probably want foster) for Marion, Reggie Evans and Banks. They wouldn't take that but then again it's pretty clear that Marion isn't gonna come back with them. So would they take some kind of lowish offer just to get something?

I think he is a decent fit, but sounds like the goal is to add youth and play for 2011-2012 and beyond.

i would love that...he did go to my alma mater in Vincennes Indiana at Vincennes University and wear number 31 in support of Reggie and tear the house down...
Once they have that golden shining moment and it comes to them in a dream or whatever and they understand that, that's when this team and this franchise will go to another level from where it was when I was here.

I say we bring in Dahntay Jones. He's a defensive stopper and can jump out the building. At the very least he'll get the fans out their seats.

Marion's quickly disintegrating, and will not be worth more than the MLE in 2 years.

IF I could sign him for 4 yrs starting at about $8 million and declining 8% a year with a player option for yr 3 and a team option yr 4 I might just do it if the Raptors would take Jamaal and 2 2nd round picks for him.

We'll probably have to include Foster and assume Banks in that scenario.

Chris Bosh is actually lobbying Colangelo to re-sign Marion. But I doubt Coalngelo commits to Marion if he can't get Bosh to commit to an extension with the Raps first.

So if we make a move for Shawn, i think there's a real possibility we can get him.

Well, of course. But, why the hell would Toronto waste cap space by taking on Jamaal when they could just tell Marion to take a hike and not be stuck with Jamaal's salary?

Too late. Marion would've been good last year as a swap for JO. But we got Ford and Hibbert instead of the cap space. If Ford comes around or we can swing him for a better piece, I think we did a good deal. Even if not, Hibbert should be decent.
