Around The League Offseason Thread

Post#1 » by MHZ » Wed Jul 1, 2009 7:01 pm

Wanted to make a thread to talk about what the other teams are doing this offseason, and how it may affect the Nuggets.

I'll start inside the division, where Utah is bringing back essentially everybody they thought might not come back (Boozer/Okur). It'll be interesting to see who throws money at Paul Millsap. It's tough to imagine Utah letting him walk.

Portland, on the other hand, seems to have locked in on Hedo Turkoglu, and it's something I have a hard time understanding, to be honest. For a team that's been as patient and meticulous as Portland has been building their team, this screams of a desperation move, IMO. I just don't like Hedo fitting in with that roster.

OKC is supposedly putting together an offer to try to snag Millsap away from the Jazz. The Jazz are now shopping Boozer in the hopes of gaining some cap room to resign Millsap or at least I assume that is the reason that they are shopping Boozer.

Memphis is supposedly putting together an offer in the 40-50 million range to throw at David Lee.

Toronto has contacted LK

Yeah, it sure sounds like the Thunder have a real shot to snag Millsap away from Utah. That would be pretty entertaining to see Utah take a hit like that, but that would be a really nice pickup for another divisional team in OKC.

Detroit looks poised to turn Chauncey Billups into Ben Gordon and Charlie V. I'm not super high on either of those guys, I guess this means they'll be looking to move Rip?

Sounds like the lakers are going to sign Artest. Nuggets are gonna have to do something to keep pace with the rest of the west.

Actually Hedo fits perfectly with our team. He takes the pressure off of Roy to have to be the focal point of the offense all the time. Hedo is another ball handler and a guy with a high basketball IQ that this team was lacking last year especially in the playoffs. Houston had us on lock down defensively because our offense was too predictable.....get the ball to Roy and get the hell out of the way. Hedo is another playmaker who can bring the ball up and create his own shot. This is a good move by the Blazers.

OKC will be much improved but I still see them missing the playoffs. Denver still looks good as long as you can resign the Birdman. Not sure what to think of Utah yet, if they stay injury free this year, they should be improved.

Look forward to the season....good luck.

Hedo has rejected an offer with Portland and is likely on his way to Canada.

Us Interested in Grant Hill?
Thoughts?

Considering all our starting positions are filled, and filled solidly...and all we're looking for at this point is bench help....I do think Grant Hill would be a great addition if he comes for <3 mill.

If we could get him, and re-sign Bird, plus the drafting of Lawson...all we would have left is to add another big and two guard.

Charlie Bell, Anthony Parker, Kelenna Azubuike. Rasheed Wallace, Channing Frye, Jeff Foster. Just some guys off the top of my head.

**** Kleiza unless he comes back for the QO. And definitely don't bring back AC or Jones.

Apparently the Raptors also renounced their rights to Parker and Marion to do so.

Wow did Marion just get **** hard. Now he'll probably have to take the MLE from somebody....probably Orlando or Cleveland or LA, knowing how the NBA works.

Actually, if this means Portland gets Andre Miller instead, Hedo might have save Portland from themselves. I think that's a much better move.

I love Hedo chasing the money to Toronto. Bosh leaves after next season, and you're stuck in a crap situation. Hope the wife really likes the city, because you might have played your last meaningful basketball for a while.

Agreed, Miller going to the Blazers as well as Webster coming back from his injury scare me more then adding another SF and cutting the minutes of the productive role players they already have there.

Now Portland might make a run at David Lee? Wow. I hope they do, actually. That makes no sense. I'll hypothesize the report is BS.

Spurs adding McDyess is not good news for the Nuggets.

What is Dallas doing? They resign Kidd to a huge deal overpaying him by about twice his value, trying like hell to get an old Marion, signing Gortat, getting Quinten Ross, and have yet to even try to fix their biggest weaknesses. they still have no shooting guard, no outside shooting to spread the floor, and still have not gotten a single guy who can create their own shot. I have a feeling they may also be done soon as their MLE is gone if the Magic do not match on Gortat, and they will spent their Stackhouse bullet on a hustle player that plays the same positions as their 2 best players.

Another thing that has somewhat surprised me a little is the Cavs lack of done deals. They have been rumored to be after just about everybody in the league, yet they cannot get a free agent to commit? Something tells me either players do not believe that Lebron is going to be back, or they do not believe that team will win and do not want to be the fall guys for Lebron, as usually happens to his teammates.

I am wondering if someone could explain to me what the hell Toronto is thinking. I understand not resigning Marion, but to sign Turkoglu for just about every penny of their cap space while renouncing Marion, Parker, 2-3 bench players, the LLE, and the MLE is just plain dumb. Especially when you consider they do not even have a decent starting 5, as their projected Sg and just about the only Sg on the roster is the 9th pick from this draft, Their bench is also an assortment of overpaid scrubs and unproven players. Can anybody honestly see this team winning more then 33 games next year?

Calderon/ Ukic/ minimum contract level PG
Derozan/ Quincy Douby/ minimum contract level Sg
Hedo/minimum contract level SF
Bosh/ Reggie Evans/ Kris Humphries
Bargnani/ Jawai/ O'Bryant

Who plays defense, and who is the one or two guys that can actually play that will come off the bench? That has got to be the worst bench in the league, and outside of Derozan they still have nobody that actually can and like to play anywhere close to the paint.

I'm really interested to see what Portland does now. There's talk about Lee, Odom, and Miller. I still for the life of me don't understand David Lee to Portland talk.

San Antonio signing McDyess definitely hurts. I wonder what it means for Drew Gooden. They don't have a ton of front court depth, and you hear about them going after Big Baby, with very little Gooden talk.
