I think it's funny that "if we aren't built like the old Kings" then it's wrong argument is going on.

1st things 1st who said we're running the Princeton? 2nd I see a group of players that with the right coach can play pretty well and grow together. Yes there are SOME similarities to previous players but that doesn't mean the new Kings need to carbon copy the old Kings.

We are hoping Tyreke Evans will be a STAR player. If he is then this team is well on its way to rebuilding.

My earlier comparison was not to imply that those players were interchangeable with or carbon copies of Bibby, Christie, Peja, Webber and Vlade. Evans, Garcia, Martin, Thompson and Hawes do not have the same skill sets...which is fine. I do believe, though, that the current group can grow to be a good, cohesive unit the same way the old group was a good, cohesive unit. They won't play the same game. But I think they have the potential to grow to achieve similar success...or are at least the right building blocks to get to that success.

One thing you have to realize... and I've heard this from Geoff Petrie, Paul Westphal, and Jerry Reynolds, is that they have said Tyreke Evans will either be the best or second best player in the '09 draft when all is said and done. And yes, that includes Blake Griffin.

True. However, it is premature to sit here and say he was a bad pick. In a 3-4 years if he is a bust, I'll be right there saying it was a terrible terrible choice.

I just don't understand this at all. You've been calling for a full rebuild for years. Now you're saying that we went from a great team to a horrible team too quickly? Just what did you want exactly?



Anyway, I don't think we are re-creating the old team really. Thompson really isn't that comparable to Webber, first of all. There are some similarities, but nobody would ever see him and think "hey, he reminds me of Chris Webber" if he weren't wearing a Kings uniform.

Evans is the real sore thumb though. He just doesn't compare to anybody on those old Kings rosters and is the antithesis of a Princeton player. Sure both him and Doug will be good defenders that often bring the ball up the court, but the comparison basically stops there. Their entire offensive mentality will be completely different, and it should be. I loved Doug, but if we pick him at #4, we're in trouble. He's also not comparable to Bibby. They are both skilled driving to the basket. That's basically the one similarity I can think of in their games.

Having said that, trying to recreate that team would be great if we could keep this version healthy. Let's not forget that we didn't have Peja for half of the series against the Lakers and that he was nowhere near 100% for the games he did play. That's our second leading scorer. The next year, I think we would've won it all. I really do. But Chris went down. People act like that teams window was bigger than it really was. The Webber injury cut it short.

THANK YOU, i have been saying this (not on this forum obviously) for years. People have always said the kings were big time chokers back then and had plenty of chances to win it, but in reality we only had one chance. When Webber went down...so did our hopes of a title for years to come.
