Powe feels Celtics career over

Post#1 » by Celts17Pride » Wed Jul 1, 2009 6:56 pm

Five teams reportedly called with interest in the power forward after midnight, including Miami, Memphis and Orlando.

“Of course I was disappointed, because I want to come back,” Powe said today. “I love the fans. It was just a wonderful place to play.”

Powe walked away from his conversation believing that his time as a Celtic was finished.

Bad for the Celtics that five teams are interested but good for Leon.

Seeing those quotes makes me feel sad. You don't realize how much you like a player until you hear that he is getting suited by other teams. Well, I hope he gets a nice paycheck. Do some of those other teams know the severity of his injury? Doesn't seem so.

The fight was always Big Baby vs. Powe. Big Baby won. Yo can't have two undersized PFs on the team.

The reason Big Baby won was the injury, which I think was unfortunate. I had a feeling if Big Baby was going to command a bigger price, the Celts would take a healthy Powe back. Powe isn't going to end up playing this year however, bad luck for him.

I am really going to miss Powe!

Why didn`t we extend QO to him? We could sign him after the allstar break and the difference then between a QO and minimum contract would be very small...

It is not like he would cost us a roster spot or count against the cap if we did that...we wouldn`t sign him just retain his rights...I still don`t get it...

I really feel for Leon. Never have I seen a more deserving player get screwed royally - by his untimely injury that is. I think he will be all right in the end.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I think Powe will be back, but not this upcoming season. No team is going to sign him for more than year.

:waaa:

I really hope he can recover and at some point get paid so he will be well off financially.

I can't help but think that Danny drafted him keeping in mind that he'd only last 3-4 years with his knee history. Similar to what people have speculated the Spurs have done with DeJaun Blair. Great value at where they got him, and he was well worth the investment while it lasted.

Hopefully for Leon's sake we just weren't able to bring him back because of money, and not because DA and Co. think that he is done.

Good for Powe, but bad for the Celtics.

I wouldn't be too upset about it. It's not like he's getting shafted money wise, he's got multiple teams bidding on him. The Celtics can't over pay for powe right now, we need more help on the bench, their hands are tied. I hope Powe continues to have a great career and stays tough.

It's going to be hard to see Leon playing for a team other than the Celtics. I love the guy. I think that by not picking up the QO, Danny was actually doing Leon a favor. Danny knew that Leon probably wasn't in the team's immediate plans so he gave Leon the option to become an UFA. Now other teams can give him a decent deal (2 years for $4mil) without worrying about the Celtics trying to match the offer sheet.

Damn, if only we didn't have Scallawag, we could afford to have him soaking up a roster spot during his recovery. Even then, I almost feel like we could have dropped one of Giddens or Walker in order to keep Powe.

As for the Powe vs. Big Baby debate, remember there's still a possibility that Big Baby gets signed somewhere else too. We just made the QO.

idk, I have a hard time believing anyone wants to sign him right now. I think the right move is to say, Look Powe we want you when you are healthy. Get healthy and we will cut someone midseason and give you a spot. If he can get a better deal than he should jump on it but I'm sure we have offered him that.

I sure hope so.

This is such a bummer.
