Marc Gasol

Post#1 » by texasholdem » Tue Jun 30, 2009 3:48 pm

Luis Scola to Chicago
Tyrus Thomas to Memphis
Marc Gasol to Houston

or a straight up Scola for Gasol deal (although I would feel bad sending Luis to Memphis)

Gasol is 5 years younger than Luis and a true center. Their stats last year were very similar except of course for blocks which Gasol had a big edge. We have Landry as a possible starter at PF.

Memphis has Thabeet and Haddadi at center so they need help at PF. Tyrus and Rudy Gay would make a super athletic frontcourt duo.

If we're gonna make a run at Chris Bosh or Dirk Nowitzki it would help to have a quality center in place. Gasol's contract expires in 2011.

Dumb trade idea Gasol is real good but Scola is hands down better and you know what he is going to give you night in and night out through a season.

So No to the trade plus there is a abudance of big man in this free agent class

I'm not gon say its a dumb trade. Its definitely something to look at. I think Gasol has a relatively high ceiling, and he is a lot younger than Scola. But I've just grown too accustomed to his hair to let him go.

Agreed, minus the point about the hair.

Gasol has crazy neanderthal hair too.

Haddadi is signed for 2 more years at 1.6 million per so they have invested in him financially. Thabeet was drafted 2nd overall and will make around 4.6 million this year. If Gasol stays that's almost $10 million just at the center position for Memphis, who is the cheapest franchise in the league. I don't think Memphis will keep all three centers.

Abundance? Like who? We don't have the cap space to sign anyone good and we need to find a backup center as well.

Scola has proven to be a very good power foward. I don't know how good he would be as an NBA center for a whole season.

I'm sorry, but did a Lakers fan just say express sympathy towards Memphis about getting a raw deal?

he looks like ben affleck there

so why draft a center with the second overall pick? is thabeet gonna be a backup his entire career?

Given that Gasol is bigger, has a slightly lower rebounding rate, but 5 years younger, and that we need the trade but Memphis doesn't, I think we'd have to throw in something else to motivate Memphis on this one, as they're getting the short end of the deal.

It's a very consideration-worthy trade for us, however.

moofs, the age thing was why I put Tyrus into the deal. He is 1.5 years younger than Gasol. Chicago is less concerned with youth than Memphis at this point. A lineup of Gay, Thomas, Thabeet, Conley and Mayo is pretty athletic and young.

I don't know if you can say Memphis doesn't need the trade. They sent away Darko but didn't get a PF in return so the only PF they have right now is Darrell Arthur. Unless they are gonna play Thabeet at PF??? They want Milsap or David Lee but I think both are long shots for them.

The three-way trade doesn't work. Thomas is a MASSIVE downgrade from Gasol, whereas Scola is slightly better, but playing at a position we're harder up in. I meant we'd have to add something directly to Memphis, WITH Scola.

I wouldn't say massive downgrade. TT did average almost 2 blocks per game in less minutes than Gasol. Considering he only played one year at LSU his ceiling is still pretty high.

Watch them both play. Thomas, last I saw him, is not as bad as Stromile, but I won't say they aren't similar. He is still young, so maybe he can still "get it", but stats still show that he's nowhere near as efficient.

Reggie Miller said Tyrus Thomas could average a triple-double in this league. He's a must have!!!

Yeah, and if not a triple double, AT LEAST eight blocks per game.
