MIN's 2010 Pick Parade

Post#1 » by shrink » Wed Jul 1, 2009 3:41 pm

Three 1sts, and three 2nds.

MIN 1st ... should be Top 8

CHA 1st .. top 12 in 2010, top 10 in 2011, top 8 in 2012, top 3 in 2013, unprotected in 2014 (Lawson)

UTA 1st .. top 17 in 2010, top 15 in 2011, top 16 in 2012, top 16 in 2013 (cap space/Carney)

MIN 2nd .. keep it if its not #56-60 (no chance)

HOU 2nd .. looking better every day (Gerald Green)

POR or CHI 2nd .. less favorable of Blazers and Bulls picks (Calathes)

that Utah pick has weird protection, that Charlotte pick is awesome though. But knowing us, we'll end up w/ 2 picks in the mid 20s. Okur and Boozer are already in on the conspiracy.

I think the CHA pick will be particularly useful, as I predict the Bobcats will be at the trading door very soon. They brought in Larry Brown, but the team may be sold soon, and that may mean ridding the team of big contracts like Gerald Wallace or Okafor to make it more appealing to buyers. Returning a pick back, particularly for a team that may be entering rebuilding, will have a special appeal in trades.

we could make a huge splash in a trade before free agency w/ the picks, then lure 1 more big namer in and the 16 month plan is complete

Chris Paul
Al Jefferson
Joe Johnson

does that get us a championship?

Definitely some contention.

Especially if whoever is left of Flynn/Rubio/Love/Ellington/Brewer after trades turn out to be players.

My dream would be to end up with a top 5 pick next year while developing all the kids, make these serious moves for 2010, and totally bone the clippers by sending them a mid 20's pick.

2010 first round draft pick from Utah
Utah's own 2010 1st round pick to Minnesota via Philadelphia (top 15 protected in 2010, top 17 protected in 2011, top 16 protected in 2012, and top 16 protected in the 2013 Draft). However, if Utah's own 2010 first round draft is not protected, and if Utah is entitled to receive New York’s own 2010 first round draft pick, then Utah shall convey to Minnesota via Philadelphia the least favorable of its own 2010 first round draft pick and New York’s 2010 first round draft pick.

Looks like you got the protections switched on 2010 and 2011 for the Utah pick, but potentially if New York has a great year, we could get the lesser of the two picks. We have to boo New York and hope Utah barely makes the play-offs.

At the risk of rubbing some folks the wrong way, we should remember to be thankful to McHale for the Houston 2nd and the Utah 1st.

I also absolutely LOVE the Lawson trade/Charlotte pick.

Still not crazy about the Calathes trade, but whatever.

McHale did a lot of good things the last two years to set up the Wolves for a good future. yeah there were a lot of bonehead decisions before that with the MLE and whatnot, but he did great with the Carney trade, and the Gerald Green trade. He rubbed his crystal ball and saw the Yao injury perfectly.

I was thinking about this, is there anyway we have enough cap room (or expirings or whatever) to make this work. If New Orleans is seriously considering trading Paul, I think Love, Rubio, expirings, Charlotte & Utah picks is as good an offer as they could hope for. Plus it would still leave us with Jefferson, Flynn, and our pick.

Looking way too far ahead here... but here it goes! With our pick next year(top 10 for sure), I like Evan Turner and Solomon Alabi. Maybe we could trade the Charlotte pick and Utah pick for a better pick to assure that we get both of those guys.

Jefferson/Alabi
Love/Smith
Gomes/Brewer
Turner/Ellington
Flynn/Telfair/Rubio(God willing)

Chris Paul will not cost that much in talent. The bulk of his price will be in a team willing to absorb another big contract or two from NOH - probably Peja, and a future pick.
