12 years for a 30 year old Hossa is freaking crazy.

Because I know a lot of Gainey's moves seem stupid at the time, but end up working out. But Higgins was one of my favourite players. If we lose him, and any combo of Kovalev, Koivu and Tanguay without getting anything significant I'm going to be beyond pissed.

Better be Edmonton that's in on him.

Bulin Wall signs in Edmonton.

Seriously TSN, I could care less about a press conference for the signing of an overrated defenseman.

Well all I did was make fun of Marian Hossa for a year, now what do I do? Can't say I'm opposed to the signing, Hossa's a great talent. 12 years is absurd, though, means he'll be 42 when that contract ends. 8 would have been fine, 12 is rough for me to swallow.

Your 2010 Stanley Cup runners-up, the Chicago Blackhawks... :-?

Kopecky signing I like, although I'm wondering why the Hawks aren't going for defense at all. I'll see what I can find about these Huet rumors, which certainly means Khabibulin will be re-signed. This Hossa signing leads me to believe the Blackhawks are letting Havlat walk.

EDIT: Internet is really obnoxiously slow, just saw Khabibulin signed with Edmonton. So scratch that Huet talk.

These really long contracts (see: Zetterberg, Henrik) are actually a pretty big loophole in the system. They're basically heavily frontloaded deals with an artificially long term to reduce the cap hit. The deal looks alot bigger than it is but the money is spread out. Also, Hossa won't play out that deal - he'll retire late 30s, get his money, and the rest of the deal will be wiped off the cap hit and leave the Hawks in good position. It's almost cheating.

Long term deals have a risk. What if the player thinks he can still play and rides out the contract and isn't as productive as he was when he signed the contract? Then you have this person taking up $5-6 million dollars. Plus, why retire when you can be bought out, or still be making that kind of money? Pretty stupid if you ask me.

Lol. Tallon better hope he can trade Campbell because next season, the Hawks are screwed are their cap. They have $26 mil tied up in like 7 players and need to sign Kane, Toews and Keith and Seabrook the following year. Cap will probably go down next season so, right now for next season, doesn;t look good for Chicago.

Yep, Hal Gill to the Habs at 2 years/4.5 million. We needed a defenseman with size, so I like that signing.

I think it is a good signing. I like Gill. He played really well for the Pens and played a major role in the Pens winning the Cup. Great on the PK and knows how to use his lack of speed to his advantage.

Rumor out of Chicago is that Havlat is going to Montreal

I can't believe RealGM put Colton Orr signing with the Leafs on the Wiretap. Seriously? Insert Facepalm emo here.

Cammalleri to Montreal is a kick in my nuts. I really wanted him to replace the DPB (dirty puck bag known as Dany Heatley).

Now I have to hope for Gaborik - and if we do get him, we don't over pay and that he stays healthy (for once in his career).

What a shock, the Toronto team gets the Wiretap headline
