What will happen with Boozer.

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Wed Jul 1, 2009 8:14 pm

Boozer will be sent to Detroit for Rip Hamilton. The Jazz will save $2M on the deal and get the true SG they have been looking for, for a long time. This will happen within a day of Ben Gordon signing with Detroit.

(Has anyone not realized that Detroit is going younger and shedding players from the old regime. Why else would they be going after a 20ppg smallish shooting gaurd, when they already have 20ppg shooting gaurd in Rip. Hamilton is the best person to shed at this point because of how disgruntled he was with how he was treated last year when he was benched.)

Next Milsap:

Milsap wants to stay with his buddies in Utah and be the Man, so what will he do? He will present the front loaded contracts to the Jazz that he gets from either OKC or Memphis before signing them, and then the Jazz will make an offer equal in total value, but smaller at the begginning of the contract to save money on the luxury tax this year.

Why for the Jazz:
The Jazz realize that they will not sign Boozer after next season, and also realize that they need another scorer on the floor with the loss of offensive production that comes with Boozers departure. They also get much more value for Boozer than anyone expects them to get.

Why for Detroit:
On Detroits part, they want cap space for next year as well and this way they retain all the options they have this year. They get younger with Gordon, they also shed a disgruntled player who while still very good and very valuable, will be marginalized with Gordon coming to the team, and will most definately not be part of their next serious playoff runs 2-3 years down the line. This is the perfect retooling play for the Pistons. Next year after a one year experiment with Boozer they have the option to pay him the most, sign and trade him, or use there $18M cap space on another free agent.

How exactly do the Jazz save money by trading for Rip? He makes almost exactly the same as Boozer.

On top of that he's signed for three more years (including next year).

No thanks.

Edit: I was off one year in looking at Rip's contract. So the Jazz save $1M next year ($2M if you count luxury tax). Doesn't make up for the fact he's got THREE more years at $12.65M. Ugh. Please no.

Boozer will be traded for long term contract which is 25% cheaper. Rip Hamilton not cheap enough but trade could work if Rip and Olberto for Boozer and Harpring. Jazz save cash this year and Detroit clears space next year for Lebron and/or Wade.

Only problem with trade is Jazz make long term commitment to Rip Hamilton.

C Memo Olberto Kosta Fess
PF Millsap AK-47 Kosta
SF Brewer AK-47 Korver

Good team with a chance of going far

Where do you see the true length of Rip's contract? Hoopshype only shows this year and next for $10.3 and $11.1 respectively. Either way, I would do it because he is a perfect fit and the Jazz need to get a SG, a real one.

I would send CJ and Boozer for Rip and a pick.

Doesn't work that way. Why would the other team bother with a front loaded contract if Utah could just change the terms? If Utah decides to match, they have to match the offer the way it is.

When another team wants to sign a restricted free agent, it signs the player to an offer sheet, the principal terms of which the original team is given seven days to match.

I think what Blackham is saying is that Millsap will say to the Jazz "hey they are offering me a 4/36 contract, and they want to give me 10 up front. Make me an offer at 36 and I'll sign with you."

And never actually sign a contract with the other team.

That is exacly what I am saying, it happens all the time. Players who sign that kind of contract want out of town, while players who want to stay - present it to the team to match the total dollars, and perhaps even negotiate better opt out terms etc.

Obviously it wont be booz for rip straight up. korver or harp would hafta be included. i'd personally prefer to give them cj. but the jazz give up booz +1 for rip and ??? i know i'de like detroit draft pick for next year too to offset the two for one imbalance.

I think it will happen. Dumars and KOC are two of the best GM's and I think they are both realistic about the pros and cons of this deal. I don't see detroit giving up a draft pick unless they give it lottery protection, but I still don't see it. That would be nice though.

The other problem is that Olberto was waived already. He cant be included.

Do it now. I have been calling for this trade for 6 months now. Do it, do it, do it, then do it again. Maybe we can even get rid of Miles in the deal.

Why not? Have Charlie V play the 5 with Kwame backup and have him spread the floor for Boozer. You would play small but you could play big with Kwame if need be. I think Detroit would do it.

Don't know what will happen with Boozer. If it was my call I'd put him on inactive list until I could find a way to trade him for picks, expirings, future considerations. Let's see what kind of contract Boozer gets next summer if we just don't play him.

Yes...I know he is small but just play small and then go big with Kwame when you need to. Didn't you listen to Locke? That is what he said so go freak out at him.

What about a three way trade. Boozer to Chicago, Brad Miller to Detroit, Rip to Utah. Maybe throw in a late first rounder to Detroit.
