I think Foster would be the one most likely to go if we got Gortat (which we won't).

So we sign a guy who has career averages of basically squat and MIGHT be a decent PF (who has absolutely NO offensive game), and TRADE AWAY a guy who is proven and averaged almost 15 and 12 last year? I'll pass on that every day of the week and twice on Sunday, salary dump or not.

Not a salary dump, just doesn't make sense to keep both and Murphy will net more than Foster. I'de rather not sign Gortat. I think he's a little overrated but could be a solid player. Prob not worth full MLE but maybe I'm wrong. If we do sign him and keep Murphy where do the mins go with the bigs? Murphy/Hibbert/Gortat/Foster/Hansbrough/McRoberts. So we just drafted Hansbrough to be the 5th big in the rotation? I doubt it. Someone has to be moved and Murph will net the best player.

So you DO or DO NOT want Gortat? You have confused me thoroughly, but that could just be because I'm super tired right now.

I'm saying it wrong. I'de be happy because we added a player and he could be quality. But I'm not for signing him because I think he's overrated a little and might not be worth the money (especially if we end up moving a fan favorite like Foster/Murphy to free up min). Kinda the same lines some people were with Hansbrough at first.

I personally feel like if there is money out there for the Pacers to spend, they should go after a G/F. I feel like too many min are locked up at the big position for signing Gortat. But hey if we sign him and keep everybody I'de be happy because the Pacers actually did something.

Ok I'm followin ya now. Can't say that I disagree either. I wouldn't mind having him on the roster but I don't want to move anyone to get him, nor do I want to give him a contract that he's likely to get (because I don't think he'll be worth THAT much).

Marcin Gortat was scheduled to fly to Dallas on Thursday after giving the Mavericks a verbal commitment to sign an offer sheet with them next week, according to NBA front-office sources.

The Mavs will offer the full mid-level exception, which could translate to a five-year deal starting at roughly $5.6 million, in hopes of convincing the Orlando Magic not to match the offer.

I don't wanna break the bank for Gortat. I doubt we could offer something bigger than Dallas' proposal.

5 years, starting at $5.6 mill the first year???? Take him! I remember back in the day a guy by the name of Jim McIlvaine was perceived to a great project big man who put up similar numbers to what Gortat did in his first 2 seasons. He got a contract like this from Seattle (7 years, $35 million or something close to that).

Now, go google Jim McIlvaine.

I know McIlvane.

Gortat is no McIlvane, sir.

Very different scenarios, but I'm highly surprised Dallas ended up with Gortat after they signed Diop to a full 5 year MLE last year and ended up moving him by mid-season for Matt Carroll.

I like Gortat but the full mid-level exception for 5 years is too rich for my blood.

Dallas is the perfect destination for Gortat. An owner who could offer the full MLE and he will likely be a starter there. Much as I like the guy we simply can't compete with that. This will be a very good pickup for them. I"m guessing Carlisle is a happy guy today.
