I too have been touting this trade for Rip for some time now. Remember the last time we traded for a guard with championship experience? Thats what we need. Trade CJ and Booz for Rip and a bag of cheetos. Save money and get some leadership experience in that locker room. Rip played a major part in the Pistons 6 years to the east finals and championship team. Booz is gonna leave next year anyways. Heck, trade Booz and AK for Rip and Tay. Why not? The pistons are looking to start new anyways. I just dont see how a trade to get Rip does not make us better.

A trade for Rip would be awesome. That was the first thing i thought of when i saw that the Pistons signed Gordon. The Pistons did say that they brought in Gordon as a super-sub. Many fans on the Piston board think that is a smoke screen though. Who cares if Charlie V is only 6'10", how tall is memo? I think Dumars and KOC are talking already!

Would you be comfortable with Charlie V playing 5 for the Jazz? Why would anyone else want him too.

Detroit fired Curry, who was Hamilton's bad blood cause; I think they will retain Rip now...

Re: What will happen with Boozer.
No, I really think the Jazz and the Pistons need to move these players. The Pistons are not going to be competing for 2-3 years now, and by that time they will not be resigning Rip and he will be part of their past at that time. What they gain is cap space next season, and freedom to do creative things with their roster. Plus they get to see if Boozer comes in and proves to be worth the money.
Now, I also like the idea of getting Camby in some kind of three way, but I would really like the Boozer/CJ trade for Rip and if we can squeeze a pick as well out of them all the better.

CV fills their need for a 4. If I were them I'd go after Chandler, not Boozer.
sipclip - "Even though I love what I have seen from Mitchell if you were to ask anyone if they would rather have Booker and the 24th pick or Mitchell they would all take Booker and the pick."

Re: What will happen with Boozer.
One other quick comment. I too see the comments by Detroit that they want Gordon as a super sub as a total smokescreen. First of all Joe Dumars is one of the smartest GM's in the league, he knows you don't sign a 21ppg scorer at $11M per as a backup, and you don't lock up $22M to one position unless it is TD, Wade, Lebron, Kobe or Howard etc.
Rip is now part of their past. Stuckey, Prince, CVill, and Gordon are their young core for the future and the capspace they get next year through this trade is huge for them. Without this trade they have no flexibilty until 3 years from now.
Think about it: Last year they traded their best player for capspace. They saw team chemistry go down, playoff aspirations evaporated and they even almost missed the post-season, then they got swept. Now, I don't think they got as much as they needed from Denver beyond the expiring contract, but at least with Booze their is the potential that they might want to hang onto him after the season.
Dumars mistake with Billips was a question of value acquired, not motive. The motive is right. Teams like the Jazz and Detroit that are not destination cities need to retool on the fly, and that takes a GM who sees the writing on the wall before the getting has already been gotten and gone. What I mean, is Dumars knew that their core was never going to compete for a title again so he started moving pieces to free things up for a new run. The four young guys I mentioned are the first pieces headed into that direction. Boozer could be, could be part of that after this year but not if they have no capspace.
If you are Dumars, do you think he really thinks Lebron, Wade, Bosh or any other big names are coming to Detroit? I think he knows the answer next year for those three is no. The next best thing to help you retool is cap flexibility! Booz gives them that.

Re: What will happen with Boozer.
Hey, Pistons fan here, sorry to intrude.
Looks unlikely we would want Boozer now, after signing Villanueva we need a center I guess (but God knows what goes through Dumars' head...). But we would probably need to trade Rip. So there would have a to be a third team involved, that would take Boozer and give us a center. I guess that's not impossible to find. This proposed trade : viewtopic.php?f=2&t=921513#p20038223 is a bit complicated since it involves four teams, but the general idea is there for you and for us : we trade Rip for a center (in this case Chandler), you get Rip for Boozer and Miles, which saves you salary in order to re-sign Millsap.
I guess some trade of that sort could be found.

In my enthusiasm i hadn't thought that far. I think the idea of a 3-4 team trade so that they get a center, we get rid of Boozer, and we get Rip is a good idea though.
BTW i'm a Boozer fan, but if the jazz can get something for Boozer before he leaves i'm for that. I like the back court of Dwill and Rip.

Re: What will happen with Boozer.
I haven't been shy about my dislike of the AK for Maggette deals that keep popping up.. but what about Boozer for Maggette and Acie Law?
Why it works for the Jazz:
Saves money this year
Clears minutes for Millsap (assuming they match)
Brings in a scorer who can create his own shot and get to the line
Why it works for GS:
Gets them out of Maggette's contract
Gives them a "free" trial with an All-star big man
Note: I'm not sure if Acie Law is the right piece to smooth out the numbers. He can't be traded again until Aug. 25.

Nets Trade:
Keyon Dooling
Tony Battie
Jarvis Hayes
($12,233,300)
Jazz Trade:
Carlos Boozer
Matt Harpring
($18,823,900)
Jazz save $6.6 million, take on no long-term salary, and get three useful role players... Dooling's contract extends into next year but only $500,000 is guaranteed...

Re: What will happen with Boozer.
The Jazz were interested in Dooling a few years back, I think they showed some interest in Battie also. The problem is Dooling is the only one who would be hear after this season, and I don't think he's worth trading Boozer for.
The Jazz would probably rather just let Boozer expire.
