Magic general manager Otis Smith made that clear on Wednesday. The team's willingness to pay the luxury tax for the first time makes Smith confident that Orlando will pay the price to retain Gortat.
"The owner said we can go into tax so that changes things. Once you get clearance to (go beyond the luxury tax threshold), (Gortat) has to go get a deal and let us see what we're comfortable doing," Smith said. "At this point, we're matching everything that comes back to us on him.
"We'd all like to have Marcin back. That goes without saying." Link

Some people have started wondering in columns if Gortat is going to be another example of a player who signs high and never is able to replicate the production he showed in limited minutes when taking on a bigger role.

^^^Compare Gortat's numbers with Gadzuric's before he signed that six-year deal. They're very similar per minute.

Well, I'll confess to letting a few minutes of Gortat in the playoffs get me excited. Other than that, I only know what I think the #s tell me.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Gortat has agreed to sign with Dallas, so it's up to Orlando if they want to match.

HM good call on Diogu. He showed some potential with Indiana in '08 before he got hurt and never had much of a shot in Sacramento. I wouldn't mind bringing him in for cheap.

If Dallas gets Gortat, does that make Ryan Hollins available cheap?
Also, given Dallas's track history with bigs does their throwing the full MLE at Gortat a bad future indicator? Last year they gave the full MLE to Diop and well that didn't pan out and we need not reminisce about Dampier.
