I don't mind waiting either. The answer to this buyout dilemna seems pretty simple to me. Fegan needs to stop acting like an *** and start lining up endorsement deals for Ricky in Minnesota. The sooner he comes here to play, the sooner Fegan gets paid, and the sooner Ricky will be getting his second contract.

Shooter is also reporting Rubio will stay in Spain for two years.

"The Minnesota Timberwolves' top draft pick, Ricky Rubio, 18, will remain in Spain to play for his DKV Joventut basketball team for the remaining two years of his contract rather than try to move to the NBA this season, El Periodico reported today.

The Barcelona newspaper also says Rubio, who was paid $97,000 last season, plans to withdraw his contract lawsuit against DKV Joventut. "

No surprise here, it was what I expected

I am still yet to locate any evidence whatsoever that expresses Rubio's dislike for Minnesota the city or Minnesota the ball club

That Flynn pick looks mighty fine right now

By all accounts, Rubio wants to come to the NBA (and Minnesota), but that would mean paying a massive buyout out of his own pockets (he'd have to take out loans, and then the first two years of his NBA contract would essentially go towards paying back those loans). Financially, it makes just about 0 sense for Rubio to come over right now.

I knew he was not playing in Minny.. I think it is not over yet. Joventut has all interest in getting his buyout somehow... Losingsome fresh money would be a disaster for them since they have debts. It depends why Rubio did this.. If he asked for a trade maybe could still be in the Nba..
Anyway it is not a great situation for Minnesota.. u can say you are ok with waiting two years... but two years is a lot of time.. and will be difficult for him to fit in in the future, when Flynn will probably be the man at the point

Exactly how big is the Spanish market in Minnesota? Unless Fegan goes nationwide with endorsement deals, can you explain where the regional money for Rubio will come from for endorsements?

You act as if it is a simple proposition to get endorsement deals in a small market.

Why does we have to have a spanish market for him to have endorsements? That makes no sense. If he is popular and draws a crowd to the games he will get endorsements. The hype and his style of play will do that.

He's already getting nationwide endorsement deals.

Probably, although it's not like it's new information that there was a great chance that he would stay over there.

Everything his father has stated and the new sources state it is about money, not MN drafting him. So how would trading him change this? He still gets paid the same amount. Do not say endorsement deals, the only way he will get more endorsements is if played for NY, LA or CHI and none of those four teams will either have enough to trade him or want him.

NY- not enough assets
LAC- Unless they can move B. Davis and his contract and give us Gordon.
LAL- I think they are ok as is.
CHI- D. Rose

Looks like step 1 of Rubio's nuclear option is being prepared.
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-4 ... ption.html

1. play 2 years in spain
2. if not traded then sit out a year.

Call me crazy, but I think this could still be part of the chess game Rubio has been playing with his team. They NEED his buyout money and say the only way he would play for them next year is if he drops the suit. So Rubio drops the lawsuit he filed to show them he's really serious about playing for them next season so they are forced to drop the buyout so they can get their money or just keep Rubio. I still think Rubio is very prepared to stay in Spain for a year or two otherwise he wouldn't be playing such hardball. It's likely he goes back but I still think there's a chance that DKV Joventut lowers their buyout and Rubio will play. I'm not banking on it though.

Oh well. i guess us Ricky fans would just have to wait for two more years before we see him in action in the NBA. Sigh.
