Objectively, what can we get by trading Boozer
I think there seems to be a consensus that we need a 2 or a 3, but what specific players do you think we could reasonably expect, especially considering the fact that the team taking Booze would have to know it's almost certainly only a 1 year rental.

Re: Objectively, what can we get by trading Boozer
I posted a suggestion in another thread for Maggette. Others have mentioned Rip Hamilton.
I think it has to be a guy with a at least 2 years left on his contract on a team that wants to clear cap space for 2010 and beyond. I think if the Jazz decide to trade Boozer, they'll find plenty of suitors.

^^^ Hamilton is a realisitc choice. Maybe s&t for Artest???????????? Hmmmmmmmmmm? Definately a hustler and worker on the court, but will let a bad 3 fly too often. Would be perfect if he wasn't messed in the head. (Of course he wouldn't be available if that was the case)

Ill take a pass on Artest. Dunno how he and Sloan would feel about each other.
I would say Rip and Prince are the only ones that seem reasonable since Detroit is the only team to show any interest. If there was a larger list of teams to choose from I'm sure you could come up with some interesting trades but so far Rip is the only possibility. Maybe if the Bobcats were still looking to upgrade their front court we could get someone such as Okafor, Wallace, Diaw, or Bell.

I would love the Okafor deal. Just not sure why Charlotte would do that.

They have expressed their desire to upgrade their post but I don't know why they would trade away their young defensive center to do so. It might be possible if we throw in some young talent such as C.J or Kosta or maybe even Fes. We would likely have to give up some other pieces or a draft pick to make the deal work. But then again who knows with the Bobcats...

Re: Objectively, what can we get by trading Boozer
Makes no sense.
1st, we'd need to clear cap in the trade to get enough room to sign Millsap. So that means like Boozer, Harpring, and Korver. Or Boozer and AK.
2nd, it would be a downgrade moving Boozer for a 2 or 3. We are decent at those positions and would just create a bigger hole if we moved Boozer to fill a minor need at the 2.
If we could get a solution at the 5, a legit defensive center that would fit our team, I'd consider it. But, not for a Maggette (puke) or Hamilton (too expensive and old).
I just dont' think it's in the cards. We'll either let him walk or attempt a sign and trade next year when our cap situation isn't so dire.

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Wonder what Leon Powe's future is looking like. Wonder if there is any game left in his legs. If Millsap walks he could be a good replacement if he can still play.

Powe is done for this season, but it will be interesting to see if a team signs him similar to that of signing pitchers fresh off tommy john and hoping for a steal.

What about Washington or Chicago? They are both in desperate need of a low-post scorer. I could see a trade to Washington for Miller or Foye.(Not sure what their contracts are like.) Washington traded their pick for two scoring wingmen... which is all their team consisted of before. Now they are truly loaded in the back court. Or to Chicago for Thomas, Noah, or Hinrich. Again, not sure on their contracts but I'd love to see Miller, Foye, Thomas, or Noah in a Jazz uni. Hinrich would be a great fit for Sloan but I think he gets 10 million a year. Too much.

Miller or Noah would be great. Ive always wanted Miller here in Utah but I dont really know how we fit him into the lineup unless we had AK playing lots of PF. Any interest in Jamison? I'm not sure if his contract would match up but I remember there being some interest around him from the Jazz a year or two ago.

Re: Objectively, what can we get by trading Boozer
Again.
The Jazz aren't going to trade Boozer in a deal taking on salary. So, no to Miller, Foye, Noah, and just about every other guy you can think of.
Unless that team has 10mil of expirings or TPE's to send our way there is no incentive on our end.
Boozer for all his flaws just became more valuable to the Jazz when he opted in. Before the decision was made I'd have traded him for pennies on the dollar to avoid losing him for nothing, now we're not in that situation any longer.
I just think we have to resign ourselves to the high probability that Millsap will be playing elsewhere this year. And really, that's not the end of the world. Especially if he's pulling down 40-50 million.

They could always trade away Miles or Korver in the deal too you know...anything is possible, it doesn't just have to Boozer in the deal.

Re: Objectively, what can we get by trading Boozer
In my opinion now is not the time to trade him. We wont get much now. Wait till mid season just before the trade deadline. Their will be an underachieving team that wants to blow it up and get under the cap in the summer. THat is when we will get good value for Boozer since he will be expiring. Right now every team has hope that they will get better. Wait till midseason, the ticket sales will be down the ecomomy will be worse. Some gm will be facing the fact that he has a lotto team with a few long term contracts that are not paying off.
A perfect example would be how the lakers got Pau Gasol. Memphis was giving up and rebuilding and wanted his contracts off the books.

Re: Objectively, what can we get by trading Boozer
I'm not resigned to losing Millsap, not in the least. Not with Presti holding the pen. If there is a fiscally responsible GM in this league, it is him. He's not going to sign Sap for stupid money. Front-loaded contract? Sure. But not 10 million per year.
The Jazz are going to be able to keep Millsap. Then, if they are able to trade Boozer for a legitimate wing/combo guard or center, this team suddenly warrants luxury tax money.
Someone is going to get fleeced of their talent by the Jazz. They have a ton of expiring contracts on the eve of the Summer of 2010. There are at least a dozen teams that would love to get $12, 17 or 18 million closer to landing a major free agent next summer. Boozer + Harp/Korver will get them there.

Re: Objectively, what can we get by trading Boozer
Do the Jazz have to match the contract exactly? Everything I've read says the team has to match the principle terms of the offer sheet. Are those principle terms the yearly rates or the total contract amount and number of years?

Not for any old 1st rounder but its possible. You would probably have to throw something else in the deal to sweeten things up since Boozer is worth a lotto pick at the least in my eyes.DowJones wrote:Would you guys deal boozer for a late 1st round pick and pure cap-space?
