Bruce Bowen?

Post#1 » by bjschacht » Thu Jul 2, 2009 12:30 pm

What do you guys think of adding Bruce Bowen? He would definately come cheap, he plays good defense, he can shoot the three and he makes good decisions. He would add good depth to the bench.

I posted a thread on this when he got traded. I agree with you that since at least one of our FAs will have to be vet minimum, I thought he'd be great behind PP at that cost...

... However most people said they werent interested. Other delusional people thought that Bill Walker could contribute more to this team. I like Walker eventually, but he isnt ready, Bowen is a savvy veteran who gets under people's skin.

I wouldnt mind seeing him in green again.

His going to go back to SA.

"If the Bucks do waive Bowen, he will be free to sign with any team, but he made clear that his first choice would be to return to the Spurs, were they to offer him a contract.

“Absolutely,” he said."

I read that he is interested in ORL and CLE...ORL is supposedly where he wants to play and that he doesn`t want to go back to SA...

But for the minimum I would definitely take him...of course, bucks need to waive him first...

I read somewhere that the Bucks wont release him until August 15th. They will be fielding trade offers in the meantime.

I wrote in another thread that Bowen's contract expires after this season, just like Scal's. If the Bucks would straight up release Bowen, they might aswell take Scal (a high quality character) instead. But I'm not even sure that would suit us, because Scal is a terrific player to have deep on the bench.

The problem with Bowen is that he doesn't fill the need of scoring and creating offense, which our bench players had. I think he can give us 15 minutes per game at most, at a good level.

We somehow need to find a cheap guy who can be like Flip Murray was a few years back, someone who could come in and create some of his own shots.

Word.

And as far as Bowen, he actually sounds like a decent fit. Pretty much a poor man's Battier but for really cheap.

But having said that,

I ABSOLUTELY HATE BRUCE BOWEN WITH A PASSION.

Dude is such a dirty player. Probably want him on our team rather than another team like Orlando just so he couldn't potentially, but "accidently" injure one of our stars.

BB is past his prime. He lost significant playing time last year and is now known as being someone who goes after players. I don't think he was particularly effective defensively last year and his shooting numbers were way down.
Pass

If we are looking for a defensive specialist who can shoot Artest is available. If his head is finally screwed on right he may be one of the best additions this team could make. S&T RAllen and put him at the 3. Move PP to the 2. He SHUTS down LeBron and every other 3.

Say no to trading Ray for Ron. NO!

He's a defensive gem but also a chucker that I would not want in the starting lineup. Paul has to move down from his natural position. Rondo wouldn't be as effective. Just, no.

I like the idea of keeping him on the bench. He doesn't necessarily need to be Pierce's backup... I think he'd be fine as a guy you bring in during certain situations when he's needed a la lindsay hunter.

I flat out don't like the guy. Maybe he could help the team in some small way but I just hope we don't get him.

Bowen is actually still a very good defender. The reason he didn't get as many minutes last year was due to our lack of offense, which he obviously didn't help. He has lost a step, but he's honestly still a very good defender. He was our 3rd best player in the playoffs, and he completely shut down Jason Terry in the series. He's also still great at shooting from the corners.

I don't think he's likely to go to Boston though, although it's possible. It doesn't sound like he'll be returning to the Spurs though, but I would guess he's going to retire if he doesn't.

I would rather have him than than Grant Hill, honestly. We just need somebody to fill in the role Posey had in 07-08: a swingman who can come in for 10-15 mpg, hassle the oppenent's best swingman defensively, and hit the occasion three when left open. Even at age 38, I am not sure we could find someone more perfect for that role. For the vet minimum, anyway.
