More athletes should be like Artest and not always think about the money and think about winning. In what universe is Ron Artest worth $14M/yr over longer than 3 years? That would be horridly overpaid. The max he's worth is about $10M-$11M/yr over 5 years based on his production, skillset, and defensive game. And that's assuming a team is willing to ignore his baggage and antics, which is highly unlikely, and is why he's probably worth closer to $8M-$9M over 4 years on the open market. And since no team has cap space and this is a crappy summer for FAs, basically the Blazers, Raptors, and no one else can offer him those dollars. Plenty of teams can offer him MLE, though, and that's exactly what he got.

So since dude is a nutcase, you'd have to be insane to offer him a max long-term deal, which is why he got offered 3 from LA and 1 from Houston.
