Nick Fazekas
Nicj Fazekas is a legit 6-9 3/4 in his barefeet 4 who is a plus rebounder and can shoot. The rap on him was athletic ability. I guess he runs like Adam Morrison (i.e. like he has back problems.) But, unlike Morrison, he still did well in "athletic" indicators: steals, blocks. Andf he was a decent assist guy for a 4.
Here is a recent draft express profile that discusses his weakenesses at length. http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Nick-Fazekas-175/
He was a dominant college player at Nevada: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/pr ... erId=15206
His NBA Draft Report profile from 2007: http://www.nbadraft.net/players/nick-fazekas
His NBA numbers on a per-minute basis for his rookie year are not bad at all. He could score and rebound: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/nick_faze ... stats.html
He apparently has been working on his atheticism: http://www.rgj.com/article/20090702/SPO ... 20351/1018
Worth keeping an eye on this guy.

We don't need anymore projects. We need guys who actually know what its like to win. I'd rather sign a veteran who wants to hitch his wagon to a title.

Re: Nick Fazekas
It is not a matter of a "project" displacing a rotation player, cfan. Assuming we sign Wallace and re-sign Big Baby, our rotation slots at the 4 and 5 are taken and then some. We will have the best depth we have had at those positiosn since 1986, or 1981. We fill out the last slot or two with guys who are not going to play much. Danny will likely opt for one project from Swift, Fazekas, Sweetney, or a minimum salary free agent. He may opt for two projects there, if Scal is traded.

As a 6th, 7th big man I would be willing to give him a shot. But lets see how he does in SL first...

Fazekas is not made for the NBA. I said before, when he was first coming out that he would have a hard time because he won't be able to get off his shot in this league. That's what has happened. Pass on him.

Huh? not be able to get off his shot? In his rookie season he shot 56 percent FGs, and averaged 4.7ppg in 10.3mpg. Plus 3.4 rebounds. He could definitely be a solid player, and IMO he isnt that much of a project. Just doesnt have a huge upside.

He is a poor man's Kevin Mchale. Why do I feel that he will be good this time? Is it because we have Clifford Ray? I also think he is much smarter than POB.

If he's not ready to dominate this year, we need to look elsewhere.

The "let's give the white guy a chance" threads are starting to wear on me. I'm white, and so am not prejudiced against white players... just ones who can't actually play. The back problems thing is enough for me to pass on him.

Re: Nick Fazekas
I take offense at the notion that this thread is some "give a white guy a chance" thread. Any player with Fazeka's credentials would attract my attention...and, apparently, Danny's.

Re: Nick Fazekas
This guy can legitimately play. He has talent. If he can get around the athleticism gap he could be pretty good. His limited numbers suggest he is an NBA player, and I believe he has played pretty well in the minor leagues (someone correct me if I am way off on that).
Again, however, only try it if there is space on the roster. Let's kill the big fish (getting guys who can definitely play right now), and then get the little fish (accumulating guys who might be able to play later).

Terrible player, especially on the defensive side. He wasn't even good enough for the Belgian League. Amazingly slow player, who moves awkwardly and very slow and flat footed. Not a NBA level player by any means (unless his agent is saying the true and he's indeed improved his athleticism by leaps and bounds). There are many better bigs than Fazekas available for cheap to fill that 5th big role in a NBA team.

Re: Nick Fazekas
It's surely summer when some begin fantasizing about adding useless parts to a team that's trying to win a title, not overcome a collection of brain-dead basketball players, like the 2005 and 2006 Celtics.
The problem we confronted in the playoffs was with Garnett and Powe down, our ENTIRE bench was made of up Fazekas clones - projects who haven't proven diddly squat in the NBA.
We need real players and a real bench, not more Brandon Hunters and Orien Greenes.

Eh, lots of white people are prejudiced against white players...

Re: Nick Fazekas
I haven't seen such a wide span of opinions regarding a player.
Poor man's McHale to garbage who couldn't even play in the Belgian League.
I am sure interested to see how he performs during the summer because as of right now, I have not seen enough of his game to make a real opinion.

Re: Nick Fazekas
Fazekas is great. Don't know why he's not on a roster to be honest (back problems?). He can light it up as well as anyone in the NBA and he can rebound really well. What more do people want?
I don't know how much of a project he is; there isn't much to go on, but in the limited minutes he was given, he performed extremely well.

That's not an opinion, it's a fact. He was released from his team. I saw a 6'5'' midget absolutely dominating him in the post.
