Cavs talks to Marion/AP

Post#1 » by The Duke » Fri Jul 3, 2009 4:10 am

The dominoes starting falling in the NBA on Day Two of free agency. Some of the players the Cavaliers had significant interest in appear to be headed other places but they are still very much in the free-agent game.

According to a league source, the Cavaliers have begun homing in on Toronto Raptors free-agent guard Anthony Parker after both Ron Artest and Trevor Ariza appeared set to go to other teams.

Another source said the Cavs also have spoken to another Raptors free agent, former All-Star Shawn Marion, though it was not clear late Thursday if the two sides had gotten serious. Both players are unrestricted free agents.

I dont believe that marion would sign for the mle. That makes signing him difficult unless there is a s&t somehow in the works. marion and parker?

Marion isn't ideal but beggars can't be choosers...if he would sign for the MLE would be a decent addition

He can defend 3's/4's - we would still need PF help though to be honest

After what happened with CV, Artest, and then Ariza... I don't believe any of this until is actually happens. It's all speculation to me.

Marion is among my least favorite basketball players. So I really hope nothing comes of this.

Does it seem to anyone else that we find ourselves in the same position that we did the offseason that Ferry arrived? Is this team going to make moves based on having to do something to make a splash? I dont mind the Marion talk since I believe he would be an upgrade from Andy, but with the agreements coming so fast I hope Danny doesnt panic and do something for the sake of doing something. We have seen that movie before and it wasnt pretty.

Marion for the MLE would be a steal. I would love this move.... he so versatile, he can defend almost any position. AP would also be a decent add... Well see...

This might help the Cavs matchup with Orlando, but how does this help us the Lakers (I don't think it does at all).

AP/Marion (S+T) for Z + your youth prospects.

-You get 2 rotation players, who will help you where your lacking. (PF starter who runs the floor well and provides good defense, and a bench guard who plays good defense aswell)
-You loose players who wont see a ton of playing time this season
-Cavs maintain your ability to spend your MLE on (other players after) to complete your roster

Toronto may forgo its capspace.. by taking Z and adding more youth

Just a thought

Well like i said before.. Marion can defend almost any position, he can defend Odom whos a nightmare match up for almost any team.. Odom can post and can shoot from the outside too... but guess what... Marion can defend both the post and the perimeter... not to mention he can defend Kobe much better then anyone the Cavs have right now not named Lebron, who we should prefer to guard anyone else so he can save energy.

i think Marion is VERY underrated now cause he cant create his shot, but imo.... with Shaq and Bron he will be VERY effective in the offensive end too... i like this option of Marion a lot. Well see...

Well it looks like nothing is falling our way this offseason...

Apparently POR is about to sign Hedo to a big contract. In terms of Marion this makes it more likely TOR ponies up money to keep him...I guess we will see

Rumor is the Raps are offering Marion a 4 yr deal. No way would the Cavs have offered him that much time. I didn't want him but man, 4 yrs even at the MLE is way more than I saw anyone offering Marion.

Best move for the cavs at this point is to watch what happens in Utah.

Millsap wants 10Million, if he cant get it I think he may take the QO or demand a S&T to another team that will give him the money.

another possibility....they might want to dump Boozer

Trade: AV and Boobie for Boozer
Use the MLE on Barnes, Parker, McDyess

Well thats that for Marion... AP looks like the realistic option.. im not too happ with that.... I prefer Dyess... Sheed will end up in Boston.. so.. were running out of options.... it is not looking good right now..
