Seattle (40-38) @ Boston (48-30)

Post#1 » by TTown » Fri Jul 3, 2009 8:10 pm

Felix Hernandez (8-3, 2.54) @ Tim Wakefield (10-3, 4.18)
Garrett Olson (3-2, 4.81) @ Brad Penny (6-3, 4.79)
Brandon Morrow (0-3, 5.14) @ Jon Lester (7-6, 4.35)

Hopefully we get another dominant Felix start in Fenway. And hopefully we can get ahold of three or four of those Wakefield knuckleballs.

4-2 Mariners, bottom 4

Felix gave up 2 in the first, Seattle answered back with a run in the 2nd (Johnson doubled, Branyan singled him in), Johnson doubles again in the 4th, driving in Langerhans, then Cedeno hit a 2-run shot.

5-3 M's in the top of the 8th. Jose just hit a HR to left to extend the M's lead back to 2.

Langerhans looks like a nice pick up.

Rob Johnson smacks his third double of the night, driving in two runs in the 11th! Hell of a game by Rob.

You know things are going your way when Johnson and Cedeno go for a combined 5 for 10, with 3 runs scored, and 5 RBI's to open the series against the top team in American League on the road. :tooth

Holy Toledo, we're 4-3 so far, only 2 1/2 games out of first at 41-38, and only 2 games left on this brutal 9 game road trip. Would I love to win one of the last two games and go 5-4 on it. That would really be something.

Geez, I wake up Saturday morning and we're already in the 6th inning. Crazy East Coast road swings.

2-2 tie in the bottom of the 8th. Go M's!

Mariners win 3-2! Olson gave up a 2-run bomb to Varitek in the 2nd, but pitched very well into the 7th. Corcoran and Aardsma were unhittable out of the pen.

Branyan drove in runs in the 3rd and 5th to tie the game, and Woodward hit a bases loaded bloop single in the 9th for the go-ahead run.

Mariners are 5-3 on the toughest road trip of the season (of ANY MLB team??), with one to go. Wow. Color me surprised, and proud of how these guys are playing. Four games over .500!

Wow. What performances against the Sox. Last night, big ups to Cedeno for his hitting, and for Felix pitching his ass off.

Today; Olson got through the second and really shut down the Sox. Branyan came up with some big hits, especially that sac fly that went to 11 pitches or so. Oh, and the D.A. is a beast! You cant hit that man! If he doesn't make the all-star game, something is screwy.

Tomorrow is a care-free game; We win, then we win. We lose, well, who cares.

Man this is fun.

I'm dumbfounded. We clinched a winning record on this road trip. :o What's more, we did it just playing good baseball.

M's now have a record that would be in first place in the NL East, half a game out in the NL Central.

4-3 M's through 6 innings of play in the last game of this road trip. We actually have a chance to sweep the Red Sox today; but even if we don't, we end the trip with a 5-4 record. Who in their right mind wouldn't have taken a 5-4 record at the outset of it? 6-3? I have my fingers crossed, though I think we're probably going to need a few more runs to do so. Ending this trip at 6-3, and hitting the halfway point at 43-38 would be incredible.

By the way, if Basketball Jesus hasn't weighed in on this yet, he might never be coming back.

Epic fail by Batista in the 7th turns a 4-3 M's lead into a 7-4 disadvantage, and the BoSox go on to win 8-4.

Too bad. Morrow seems skittish, but he only gave up 3 heading into the bottom of the 7th, and had us the lead. Sweep would have been killer, but I agree that taking series from LA and Boston this road trip has been above and beyond spectacular.

Next up is 3 at home with Baltimore, then 4 at home with Texas (then the break). We've GOT to snap our bad luck against Texas. 0-5 so far against the Rangers.

A win today would have been sweet; but, alas, it wasn't meant to be. Still, we finish the road trip at 5-4, and return home with a 42-39 record. Bravo!

Now onto a pre-All Star game homestand against Baltimore and Texas. It's time to make a move here, methinks. At some point the M's need to strongly assert themselves against opponents they are either better than, or at least on a par with, especially at home. I'd like to see us go 6-1 or 5-2 over the next 7 games here. Going 4-3 would be kind of "meh" to me, though I'd take it it. Anything worse than that would be a step backward, IMO.

Here's an interesting little note. The M's left on this road trip with a run differential of -15, and return from it with a run differential of -18. In some respects, the song remains the same.

I'm really excited to finish with a winning record on such a tough roadtrip when a lot of people thought we were going to falter!
