Bibby resigning? What about Marvin...
I just saw this on ESPN that Bibby is looking to resign with Atlanta for 3 years. The link is from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/six ... _year.html
So what does this mean for Marvin, considering they already have an abundance of forwards and now they just invested into Bibby for a few years?
I really think that we could have a shot at getting him IF we lose Noc or Garcia. So my question would be: Should we look to give up on Noc or Garcia in order to sign Marvin?
I am personally at a crossroads, because I really feel like Marvin is the real deal, and he could be our SF for the next 8 years, but I'm worried that if we pawn off Noc/Garcia, we lose a very important veteran presence and some of the sense of security on the team.
If I had to make the call where we could get rid of Noc for a reasonable package, I think I would have to pull the trigger.

i think i would pull the trigger as well, package noc/beno/garcia (any two in a deal) and try to get marvin, wouldn't be a bad idea

Re: Bibby resigning? What about Marvin...
Our best old teams had 7 ten point scorers or better. We have Martin, JT, Evans, Hawes, Garcia, Noc, Beno, and even Donte since Rashard Lewis bounced from 5 pts his 1st year at 19 to 10pts his next. Where exactly does Marvin Williams fit?
If he is defensive stopper I would consider him or is just he gets less touches than everyone in Atl? Not that the guy isn't good he just isn't better than our #5 starter. I think Petrie would consider him if and only if he was a legit stopper at the 3 since we are loaded with offensive starters at the 1/2/4/5.

Now I have not heard anything of hatred for marivn, and everyone's main trepidation seems to be the fact that we have too many SF's. I really think that this is something that Petrie should consider

Can we please forget about Marvin Williams? I'm so sick of hearing about him. HE'S AVERAGE.
For the love of God, get off his nuts.

I agree, i understand Marvin is young but that doesnt mean he is a good fit for this team now or in the future. He is an average player and i would rather have Garcia and Nocioni even though both of their contracts are a tad too long. What need does Marvin address?

I am in the the camp that believes that Marvin would be a perfect fit for our team. As we have developing stars at every position but SF, Marvin I believe would be the glue guy for our team, He does a bit of everything and is solid everywhere. We could really use a player like him. Plus we could possibly get out from under Noc or Beno's contracts

I disagree, I don't think he fits well at all. He's definitely intriguing, but at WHAT price? With our core young guys, I don't see Marvin's skillset really meshing. We need a 'facilitator/shooter' at the 3. Marvin actually seems redudant to a Nocioni/Greene/Casspi type 3. Kinda all three rolled into one.
What we need is a Hedo-like 3 man. I think Kirilenko could be had(Beno/Noc) and fill that role until Casspi/Greene develop.
I just don't see it prudent spending 6-7 million a year on Marvin, when we have Casspi/Greene with similar skillsets, who are even younger and getting paid a FRACTION of the cost. And who's ceilings are JUST AS HIGH as Marvin's.

We have absolutely no pieces to be glued together. I see Marvin as extremely average and would rather stick with Garcia instead of overpaying for Marvin.

Hawks will likely bring Marvin back outside of someone overpaying for him. By overpaying I mean give him more than Hedo is getting. As for who is better Chill or Marvin. Marvin is clearly better. He is a better defender, shooter, rebounder, and passer. I would give the edge to Chill in the BBall IQ department but not by much. Chill want to start. Anyteam that let Chill start will never get his true value seeing as how Chill sucks as a starter. He true value is that of a 6th man. For some reason Chill can't see this.

As a UNC fanatic, I have always been intrigued by Marvin. I'm not sure how well he'll play for the team, but I'd roll the dice on him. How bad could it be? Swap Nocioni straight up in a S&T. I don't think Beno or Garcia could be packaged in the deal because it would put the Hawks over.
can we just get a new arena already...

BULL!
If any team is dumb enough to offer Marvin even 7 million a year, the Hawks pass. There's no way they go into DEEP lux tax problems and risk losing JJ next year. NONE!

Re: Bibby resigning? What about Marvin...
The defensive anchor for that Haws team is at POWER FORWARD. Marvin Williams has little to do with defense, Josh Smith is a monster on the boards and as an athletic shotblocker and that makes the guys around him look better.
I don't really get this man-love that everyone here has for Williams. He's an average SF (one position player BTW) at best whose skills do NOT include team facilitation. He will probably end up being overpaid but still not get what he (and his agent) think that he should get, because he has pretty much found his ceiling. He is not young enough to still have the "potential" label attached to him.
I don't want to make any moves for a SF at this point until we see how the battle at the position shakes out with what we have.
Waiting for the deadline is the best plan in our situation anyhow.

Re: Bibby resigning? What about Marvin...
Hawks #1 priority is to keep their own FAs. They are taken care of Bibby now because he is a UFA. Next up they will likely take care of Marvin or Zaza. Hawks will easily match anything up to $45 million.
Marvin is a very good perimeter defender. At times he even surpass JJ. Marvin showed a lot of growth this past season in developing his 3pt shot, rebounding, and his defense. He is starting to find his niche in the league now.
He will never reach the level to justify being taken ahead of Paul or Deron. He is becoming a very solid player in his own right. I'd say he is on the verge of becoming a 16/7/2 player year in and year out now.

Thus as I stated above - an AVERAGE SF in the league. We get those kind of numbers from Garcia as a BACK-UP, and people here aren't happy with the SF spot. Those numbers aren't that special unless they are coming from a key guy for YOUR team. They sefinately are NOT worth more than MLE money at best for another team.
