If Tmac were bought out should we sign him?

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Sun Jul 5, 2009 2:24 pm

He's a decent player, but he is so injured prone. Plus his team seemed to always do better when he got injured. He's never been out of the first round either.

But a positive to signing him would be that he'd get much less minutes and might be more healthy. Also he would have already gotten his big buyout so we could get him for next to nothing.

If we could truly sign him for next to nothing I'd say give him a shot off the bench, but not at the expense of being able to sign someone who is likely to be able to play consistent minutes. It's pretty sad to see what T-mac has come to.

I'd say offer the minimum to him. In the off chance he actually takes it, it's really almost no risk in having him come off the bench. If he's actually healthy, the dividends are absolutely huge with him Pierce and Ray all playing limited minutes. Again, 99% he wouldn't sign with us I'm guessing, but no hurt in throwing out an offer for the minimum, when if he can actually get healthy for a stretch he'd be our most talented wing.

Yeah, I think everyone should be on board with T-Mac at the minimum. However, there are a few drawbacks to signing him. 1. Would he be ok with coming off the bench and playing limited minutes at the 3, and possibly some at the 2? At this point in his career, maybe he will be ok with it. 2. What will it cost us? At the minimum, you can afford to take the injury risk in exchange for the potentially great offensive return, but I wouldn't feel comfortable having to dip into the MLE or the LLE to get him when there are healthier, more productive options currently on the market.

If we were to target T-Mac, I hope we would sign another 2/3 or 3/4 type player that may not have the ceiling of T-Mac, but someone who can be consistent night in/night out.

I'd be fine giving him the LLE, but I wouldn't touch the MLE and a chance at someone we knew could help this team (say Sheed) for him. The LLE or less and we can have the luxury to baby him into minutes and make sure he's healthy.

Depends if we were to sign T-Mac and that meant we couldn't get Sheed then NO but if we could get Sheed and T-MAC (doubt that can happen) I'd be all for it!

We possibly could because Houston is footing the bill for his buyout. Look at what happened with Marbury last season.

Has there been any real talk about Houston buying him out??? If he was and he could be signed for anything close to the minimum, that would be an amazing signing.

He's a borderline all star when healthy. He won't want to come off the bench, and I don't blame him. People here seriously underrate some guys sometimes.

Wherever he is this year, he's gonna do well imo. The power of the contract year is strong.
