With all the injuries this season to our pitching staff, i don't think we should risk bringing him back too early.

There are two sides to that coin though eh. You could also make the argument that the team needs him back sooner rather than later to compensate for other injuries.

Except that we aren't going anywhere this year. Sucks to waste such an incredible start, but the team never had the horses to compete for a playoff spot. We can wait 'til next year to get Marcum back.

I really don't get rushing marcum back. There is starting to be a mounting argument that it can take upwards of 2 years to recover from TJ surgery. Couple that with the fact that the jays aren't going anywhere this year and I just see no tangiable benefit to rushing back our likely #2 starter for next year. With this whole scenario it comes down to risk VS reward and when you look at it that way there's just no tangiable reason to bring him back this year. Especially now that the jays are in the midst of there pre all star break fall, coupled with there post all star slump, followed by .500 ball till september when we start to rip it up again, leave marcum until the off-season and training camp please

Yeah this is pretty tough to argue right now, but I still believe the Jays have a look at a playoff spot. All it takes is one hot run for 10-15 games and they're right back in it.

might as well let him come up here and have Arnsberg have his way with him (read: visit to the DL)

There's no such thing as "rushing him back". Baseball teams test players when they're healthy (i.e. shoulder strength, elbow strength etc....) so that when they get injured, they have a baseline to check.

They don't let guys pitch until they're back at full strength based on these baselines. The agents would never let you rush someone back anyway - there is literally millions of dollars at stake.

I dunno about this one. I don't want to rush, but at the sametime it might be good for him to get a few starts in before the season is over and they can see where he is before going into the offseason.
