Mike Bibby

Post#1 » by rak1974 » Fri Jul 3, 2009 12:11 pm

Philadelphia has contacted Bibby to express interest in him. But Bibby wants to stay in Atlanta. How much does he want to stay remains to be seen. Would he give us a big discount to remain a Hawk........ I hope so.

Bibby And Hawks: Mike Bibby and the Atlanta Hawks have exchanged some contract ideas and sources close to the situation say they are making progress towards a deal. The Philadelphia 76ers apparently reached out to gauge Bibby's interest and were turned away. Sources near the situation say Bibby's camp made it clear Mike wants to return to Atlanta and the Hawks seem like they will meet Mike's price. The belief is that the framework of a deal is in place and that Bibby and the Hawks are working through length of deal and any exit clauses. The source warned that nothing is done until its done, but said the Hawks have handled this negotiation well and they believe Bibby will be re-signed in the coming days. Link

All I'm asking for is that Bibby doesn't get more than 2 years and that his signing(along with the Crawford trade)doesn't come at the expense of not bringing Marvin back. I'm preparing for the worst though.

I'm a little discouraged that this has all happened so quickly. I would have preferred for us to play hardball with Mike like we did with Josh last summer. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the $$$ situation is.

Wow so we're his 1st priority? Great news. Even though Im excited about Teague and Crawford, Bibby had that chemistry with the guys we have, and bringing him back just makes our depth in the backcourt that much deeper with a talent like Crawford and Teague off the bench.

In an effort to entice point guard Mike Bibby to join the 76ers, team president and general manager Ed Stefanski offered the Atlanta Hawks' free agent a one-year deal this week, said a source who was close to the situation. But Bibby apparently wasn't interested and ruled out the Sixers on Thursday.

Bibby, paid about $15 million last season, plans to re-sign with Atlanta for three years, according to an NBA source. Link

The difference is that Josh was a rfa, we didn't have to be worried about another team stealing him. Bibby is different. If another team offered him a good enough offer for him he leaves and we get nothing out of it.

if bibby comes back I think we have seen the last of Marvin Williams I believe sign and trade will occur. We will use the MLE on a big and call it a day possibly bring back zaza to playback up too.

Would someone be kind enough to post the exact words of the ESPNews ticker message for those of us who don’t get that channel. For now, it just sounds like ESPN is reporting the speculation in the PI article. (Nothing concrete).

Sorry, I could very well be the only one that finds this humorous, but the great Sekou is now writing that....well, read the quote.

They are close to terms with Mike Bibby, per my sources (and that report out of Philadelphia that suggested the deal was done was not only highly speculative but also way premature - a text message from someone with knowledge of the negotiations poked fun at the report thusly, “so the deal is done, huh? That’s news to all of us still trying to sort it all out.”) on a deal that solidifies the backcourt Link

I would think that Bibby should be around the 5-6M range for a contract similar to Rasheed.

I don't think Bibby has 3 years left in him.

Can Sund get him to sign a 2 year deal would keep us from the panic button the next couple of years? That should give us a long enough look at Teague if Woody will give him a chance to learn on the court.

If we upgrade the backcourt and he doesn't have to play more than last season, I don't see why he would not have 3 years left, playing mainly as one of the best shooter in the league.
If the length is a important factor in the contract, and that the salary is not more than $6M, I'd not have so much problem to give him a 4 years contract.

With Crawford now here, and a new PG, I would say 3 years is OK, and more interesting than 2 years, because we would be in a situation where both veteran guards Crawford and Bibby would end their contract on the same summer.

I am on the side of the ones who think that Bibby should stay, even with the Crawford trade.
We need to view this trade as an upgrade and not just a solution move in case Bibby walks this year, or Joe walks next year. Bibby made an upgrade since he is here, and we can't be sure that if he walks away, Crawford can have the same impact, even with Teague.

If we can't upgrade all the team, the best solution would have been to keep everybody. Sund has gable a little bit by trading for Crawford and not a big, but Bibby, one of the biggest reason the team has improved like that, doesn't have to be the price to pay.

We know that with Bibby, and his bad defense, we can get the second round.
If Crawford can't work, (Woody says he's sure it will work, but IMO, it's mainly because he knows Crawford can plays his one-trick (ISO) offense), we could still trade him for another piece.

The only case I see not keeping Bibby is with a sign and trade, if we can get a big, like a trade for Pryzbilla + filler, knowing the rumors that POR was asking the price for Bibby and that he's a PG who can fit their team.
But we would still be not sure of our backcourt level without him.

We are talking about "should we keep Bibby ?", but the real problem comes more from the fact that trading Speedy+Law for Crawford was more a trade (in sports sense) of a contender team already paying or wanting to pay the tax, and upgrading his lineup, than a trade for ATL, where everybody knows we were not so bad on backcourt and wing, but need to upgrade the frontcourt.

It was just a move in case we lose Bibby while trying to keep him, and if we keep both but Joe walk away next summer (we would still have Bibby+Crawford), and it should show that the owners would do anything to keep a first round roster but be sure to never go over the tax threshold (even for $1M), more than upgrading the team.
