The Jazz need to do something...
Pull the trigger on the T-Mac deal. If nothing else it gets us out of Kirilenkos contract for 2010-11. My guess is it would take AK and Matts expiring contract to get the deal done. If T-Mac comes back from this surgery successfully it would give the Jazz a real superstar to play with Deron. Its the type of move the Jazz need to make to keep them in contention with LA and SA.
Deron, Maynor, FA-Vet (Price)
Brewer, Kyle,
T-Mac, CJ
Boozer, Sap
Okur, Fes, Kosta
T-Mac makes every team play the Jazz differently. His scoring ability is huge. Who do other teams double? Booz? Tracy? That leaves Deron open, Okur open, or the much improved Brewer open.
Please make this trade. I dont care if its a one year move!

Re: The Jazz need to do something...
If the Jazz moved Kirilenko and Harpring as proposed in the trade, it does reduce their overall salary a bit since they are sending out more than they get back.
However, you do realize that McGrady isn't expected to come back from injury until mid-February?
Link
T-Mac timetable set for February return: The Associated Press reports that the Rockets are expecting Tracy McGrady to miss at least the first half of the 2009-10 season. McGrady underwent microfracture surgery in February.
(Updated 06/30/2009).
Injury Report
Knee - Likely out until at least mid-February
(Updated - 6/30/09)
Fantasy Analysis
Typically, microfracture surgery takes about a year to recover from for NBA athletes so the timetable sounds to be just about right. That would mean McGrady will be around for about 40 games on a best-case scenario if he does not suffer any setbacks. We've seen in the past that players tend to take a good while to get back to 100 percent after returning from the injury and McGrady is already considered to be a very "old" 30 years of age. McGrady will be worth selecting only in the late rounds as a possible second-half reinforcement at this stage, but Fantasy owners should not be banking on a big comeback from him.
(Updated 06/30/2009).
Based on that I say there is perfectly good reason to not want to do this deal right now. You would be sending AK off (Harpring is non-consequential since he also is injured and might be done) for nothing until February. Then IF the team is still in the hunt, there is A CHANCE T-Mac may come back well enough to contribute but no guarantees. There are plenty of better scenarios out there to explore if you are going to move AK. Don't rush into it and make a deal that has decent odds of not paying off.

It depends upon what you want to believe. On the Dan Patrick show May, 20th of this year Tracy stated his attempting to be back on the floor for training camp. That obviously a lot sooner then mid-Feb. Back then he stated he wasn't running or jumping. Only jumping in a pool. I have seen a post that I am looking for again that he's running and jumping as of about 1 or 2 weeks ago. The Jazz would need to have their team of physicians look at him but if he's back by December I say do it!
Here's the link for Tracy's web site

How happy do you think T-Mac will be playing in Utah under Sloan? He wont even be the #1 guy on the team, maybe the 3rd or 4th at best. I cant imagine he would enjoy himself much here. I say we hold onto AK and look for a better deal. I wouldn't mind the Marion deal but he wouldn't like here much either.

The Marion deal is gone unless it's a sign and trade, an no way in hell are the Jazz giving Marion a max deal like AK got.
The Jazz blew that one already.

But that's SOMETHING Bat! Maybe they should trade Deron for Iverson in a sign and trade! That is something too! How about Jason Kidd? He's on TV alot. Who else have I heard of that we could trade for?

I wonder if the Brewer for Chase Budinger trade is still on the table. Something we should really look at right now.

Oh, definitely. Maybe we can trade Deron for Patty Mills while we're at it.

Yeah but I dont think its dead! Hope not anyway. The Jazz as the team stands today cant win the western conference. I know that some people dont want to hear that but there are at least two maybe three or four teams better then the Jazz in the west right now. We also dont have the $$$ to change the situation so a trade is what he are left with.

I'd like a trade--but one in a good way, not a bad way. Definitely not one just to say they made a trade. That would be what the Grizzlies did for Randolph.

The same people demanding that the jazz make this trade are the same people that would rip KOC to pieces after McGrady didn't work out. You're basically trading a player who is over paid but can still contribute on some level for a guy who is over paid and MIGHT be able to contribute offensively for half of a season. AK at his worst is still better than McGrady on the bench. I know that making this trade could clear up some money but honestly what/who would we spend that money on?

It's not like it's working out right now.. Make a move, live with it. I'd sooner see some sort of move than meander through another season of mediocrity. Let's continue to waste Deron's talent on another year of the same team. We got lucky three years ago, we've regressed badly since then. We have three more seasons of Deron before he can walk. We should really have the guts to take some chances with the roster. Roll the dice KOC..

It really doesn't matter if McGrady will be able to play or not. The deal would extraordinarily position Utah for the 2010-2011 season. Anyway, HappyProle's right: the deal doesn't appear to be alive now...

So you are sacrificing competitiveness this season to get ready for the free agent free-for-all in the summer of 2010?

Well, that's just a matter of appreciation. Kirilenko´s not been, for a long tome now, the spark the Jazz need to take a step further, so losing him most probably won't affect very much the real chance to compete for a championship; and I love what Harpring brings into the table, but he's actually thinking on retirement, and we have all watched the physical fading of this worthy warrior.
So I really fail to see the Jazz paying such a big toll without them.
IMHO the Jazz would still manage to be competitive.

I think T-mac would be fine playing under sloan as a #2 or #3, his whole time in Houston they were looking for someone to take the pressure off of T-mac, with this trade he wouldn't have to always score 40pts and it would relieve pressure for him from the media. Now as for living in Utah, thats a different matter.....

I also think he would be a fine contributor. I just don't think he would have this franchise's best interest in mind and he would be hurt too long to make a contribution in his only season.

Re: The Jazz need to do something...
Makes us an instant contender IMO, I think Sloan has the ability to get the big personalities to work together. Could you imagine TMac coming off those curls? Or just having him on the floor, Deron could drive teams absolutely nuts having that many options; Boozer down low, Okur up top, Brew on the baseline and TMac Isolated!!
Sure the trade doesn't sound right, or feel right... since he's been so hated here in Utah. But one season with Tmac and Boozer, then retool with the draft and FA's (we'll have plenty of money) having 2 first rounders and plenty of expirings to work with.
...i agree it puts a nasty taste in my mouth to see TMac in Baby Blues but we would be a SOLID team top to bottom.
Deron, Maynor, Price?
Brewer, Korver
TMac, CJ
Boozer, Millsap, Suton
Okur, Kosta, Fesenko
Thats a 13 man roster, gives us plenty of flexability, and makes us a CONTENDER which is where we are all trying to get.

Bye Bye Sloan, Good Riddance Deron. Hello new Era in Jazz Basketball.
