New biggest need Wing defensive stopper

Post#1 » by Spin Move » Mon Jul 6, 2009 6:47 am

Now that we got sheed our most pressing need is a wing player who can at least make the Kobe and VC;s and lebron work for their points, Ray is way too slow at this point and it takes too much out of paul, who is left that we should go after?

Dhantay Jones would be a good fit for you guys. Physical, tough defender who could most likely be had for the minimum.

There could be room for Stephen Graham if he's available.

I don't know if we need a "defensive stopper" more than we just need a guy to give Paul Pierce a break. The Celtic's defense is a collective effort in forcing a player to go to an area where weak side defense than rotates over and forces a tough shot - which is why getting Rasheed was such a great move for us defensively.

Getting a defensive player would be nice but a guy like Grant Hill is better because he takes mins off Allen/Pierce.

oddly i'd take bruce bowen over grant hill. i'd even trade scal for him and still sign hill. but i'm guessing they buy out, and he crawls back to the spurs.

Bill Walker.

He needs time on this team. ASAP. He can be a star...

Dahntay Jones. I wish we never would've cut him after training camp 2 seasons ago. I knew he was going to be a good defensive player and he's one of the top athletes in the game as well. He did well as a starter for a team that reached the WCF. So why are we not targeting him?

We got sheed. Now all we need is to sign Jones, re-sign Powe and Marbury. I like Grant Hill, but there's no way he can defend Kobe/Lebron/Vince/etc.

There are very good reports on JR Giddens from Orlando (just about hasn't missed a shot in two days of practice; blocking multiple jumpers). I wouldn't be surprised if Walker or Giddens came through.

Also Rondo likes Hudson and Mullins.

Well, we will see tonight how our young players look in the SL.

If MIL waives Bowen I would love to get him. Hill is nice but we are missing a big 3 defensive stopper...

Ray + Tony for J.Richardson.
Sign Hill to LLE. Dahntay at minimum.

Rondo/House
Rich/Jones
Pierce/Hill
KG/BBD
Perk/Wallace

I don't see this is as a need. If you want someone to go play man to man defense on Kobe of Vince use Tony Allen who is better than any of the guys your talking about. As for Lebron you have to throw two guys at him you aren't checking him with one guy on the wing. Mix in Walker and Giddens and I think this team has plenty of situational options.

This.

Plus he'd fit right in with his attitude. Hell, even if we don't win the title at least we'll set the single season record for T's. 8-)

I agree with this. Tony is better at defending than Dahntay Jones and the rest of the minimum salary players available. If we want to upgrade what we have with Tony we'll need to trade him and probably Scal too, or develop a player internally. In the summer league game today we should be able to see how Bill Walker and JR Giddens progressed over the summer. Giddens was said to have improved his defense. He was also described in the herald as a 'smooth shooting' SG, which is not what he was last year in the D-league or in college.

I like Bill Walker as much as the next good looking straight man, but he shouldn't be depended on to be a our 1st small forward off the bench. We need to think about now and letting him develop as a 3rd stringer or D-leaguer.

I think Jones would be a bit of an upgrade over Tony, but I'd only want him here if we traded Tony. To much overlapping in their game.

I wonder if we went after Jones if he'd be interested in coming back after we cut him last time. Anyone know if he still holds a grudge about that????

ALSO, did anyone else see Dahntay get the 4 fouls in the first 6 minutes of game 2 of the WCF. Hilarious.

jesus, tradechecker much? ray makes over 20m a year, ta 2, rich, 13. deals have to be within 25% of each other. so it would have to be rich/ben wallace or rich/nash. I'd do the second, but not the first. for this team, even with age, allen is worth more then richardson.
