Boozer for Hamilton

Rumor which clearly everyone saw coming when Gordon signed with Detroit. Hamilton no longer their guy. Question is should Jazz undertake the 3 year deal saving money this year but being stuck with his contract for 3 more years. He is 31 and playing well but not as good as he was a couple of years ago.

I assume the trade may include Harpring to Detroit with maybe Kawme coming to Jazz. Saves Jazz extra money and gets them a back up big. Harpring likely retires further saving Detroit money. I am pretty sure Detroit does it. Maybe Jazz can have them throw in a #1 pick or get some cash to pay Hamilton's contract.

I say do it just to get some veteran leadership on this team which has been missing since Fisher left.

Boy hasnt Miles contract become an albatross on this team. Why did Jazz match the OKC offer last summer?

I really wish it wasn't such a bad contract, because I think Rip is a near-perfect fit for this team.

Doesn't save Utah enough money unless they can add in an Afflalo/Sharpe for Korver or Harpring swap also and I"m not sure if Detroit will have enough capspace left.

Arguably the best catch-and-shoot player in the league...he was born for the UCLA offense. And he plays D.

How about Boozer and Miles for Hamilton and Oberto!! A better Defensive C/F with a smart offensive abilty. would fit well into jazz system. The jazz could still look for another trade to get a better small forward using combonations of Korver, Harpring, Fess and even Kirlinko!!

I didn't realize Utah has the same (Please Use More Appropriate Word) rule as Chicago.

and yes

Rip has to wear that mask as his nose has been busted one too many times and if it happens again could result in quite the severe outcome.

FWIW Rip's last year is unguaranteed.

Rip would still be allowed to wear the mask. Just like Harpring wears a brace on every joint, Just like The Big Dog wore his protective goggles and just like Boozer wears Depends.

I'm in, given that we are gonna lose Boozer sooner or later, and I don't like him anymore. I really like our starting 5 with him, and then hopefully we could upgrade our defense in the interior, which will already happen with Millsap getting more minutes.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Rip's contract extension (3 years from 2010 to 2013) amounts to 37.5M, with a flat 12.5M for each year, but only 9M guaranteed for the last year.

And, although I hate to contradict a fellow Piston fan ( :wink:

), as I understood it, even if he wore it originally because his nose was broken several times, Rip hasn't needed the mask for years now, and today he mostly wears it for superstitious reasons. He has referred to it as his 'superman cape'.

Nah, Rip needs the mask. If he breaks his nose again and requires surgery, it may affect the air flow in his nasal passages, which would not be good.

He uses his head band to keep the mask in place, so he might even get an exception there.

So the Jazz would be on the hook for 4ys and 45million for the 31yr old Hamilton. I don't know...

It's what the Salt Lake Tribune said a few days ago. Before that, all we knew about his contract was that it was "3 years for 34M, and the last year not fully guaranteed". Counting only the guaranteed money from the details given in that recent article, we arrive indeed to 34M, so it looks right.

I'm not disputing the facts, just explaining my changing attitude to it. When I read that the 4th year wasn't guaranteed my reaction was to do it right away. Knowing that it's still $9M makes me more cautious, but I'd still probably do it.

I would do it.
He is a guy who has played two finals and several conference finals.
Then AK can play more minutes at four, and Brewer at 3.
Still we would be thin and 4/5 position.
