Re: Marcus Haislip
He certainly adds some necessary athleticism and speed to the front court. After the Elson fiasco I'm not going to get my hopes up for a player like this. I do think he'll be a nice option at the end of the bench to change the pace. I also believe that the Spurs must view him as an active roster player, because at 28 he would be a waste on the IR.

After Vincent Yarbrough I wouldn't have high hopes for any UTK player in a Spurs uniform.

Re: Marcus Haislip
Well, considering we signed him for the minimum, I don't think we should really expect much out of him. At this point, I expect Mahinmi and Blair to beat out Haislip.
I'm a little worried about our bigs right now. Sheed is gone. Who does that leave? McDyess. That's about the only and most realistic possibility we have. Getting guys like Glen Davis doesn't really solve our frontcourt issues.

I don't think McDyess is our only realistic possibliity right now, theres still a few guys out there that could work well for us. Guys like Zaza Pachulia, Chris Andersen, Rasho Nesterovic, Ryan Hollins, Joe Smith and Anderson Varejao are all still available and not out of our price range. Any one of those fellas could be rotation players for us.

Re: Marcus Haislip
Well I did say Realistic.
At this point, there's no reason why we should think Chris Anderson or Anderson Varejao will settle for the MLE and join us. Especially since there's not even a word about it. Denver is crazy to let Anderson go if he can only get the MLE. Same with Cleveland.
Rasho does not solve our big man issue. Really. Joe Smith is not a starter anymore. Right now, with the group of bigs we have, we should spend our MLE on a starting quality big man. Not another backup. We need someone who could play 30 minutes a game.
To me, we're left with McDyess or Gooden. That's our only realistic options.

Re: Marcus Haislip
I just watched Haslip on youtube.
He's doing stooopid stuff (not stupid). I heard he was athletic but I didn't expect three point range, or handle, I expected dunking, but not dunking on taller people, blocking shots.
It will be intersting to see how these Euro vids translate to playing with TP and TD snd Manu and Jeff. I think its an even translation. Better compitition in the NBA but He's going to get great looks because Parker has to be doubled or at least shaded and TD requires help still.
What my eyes tell me is that he can finish better than Sheed or Dyse. I haven't seen either of them dunk on anyone in a decade not to mention go between their legs and spin and then dunk.
What my eyes tell me is that if he is really 6 9 ('m still hoping he is 6 10) and he gets Bonner's 08-09 looks he will make some people pay.
Bonner had to zero bucket games against Dallas in the playoffs and that and the dififciencies of our other Bigs cost us that series.
Tim is still the best Center in the NBA!!

i'm a toronto fan, i'll be honest, san antonio is one of the teams i NEVER check for, don't like the team, the players or anything in relation to them, but i damn well respect the Spurs.
AHEM, however. i am now Instantly a fan of this team strictly because of signing the one Marcus Haislip.
he was my favourite player in the draft when Milwaukee took him in the lottery, i followed him to the Pacers where he was cut, then to Denver & my own Toronto Raptors Summer league teams & then to multiple teams in Europe.
as said.. he is Definitely a top 5 player in the World outside of the NBA in my opinion. he can defend, run the floor, finish, pass, handle the ball great for a 6'10 player, gained very valuable experience in Europe and made himself into a complete player. this will be the Under radar signing of the year.
i'll be checking the Spurs every single game next season, book it.
btw he'll beat out Blair/Ian M and whatever other big the Spurs have. Duncan/McDyess/Gooden & Haislip? is that your rotation? Red Rocket won't be back? Haislip will earn his PT over the Rookie Blair and whoever else. don't be surprised if he ends up starting.

Hey would yousay he is a legit 6 10?
I saw a Euro site that said his stregnth is guarding tall perimeter players. Hello Dirk-i-pooh we finally have someoine to guard you.

I think Haislip is a solid pick up. Wouldn't be a spurs off season if our FO didn't pick up someone has never heard of. He provides much need front court depth and only for the league minimum. Hope this guy puts together some decent minutes outside of garbage time.
