Baltimore (36-45) @ Seattle (42-39)

Post#1 » by TTown » Sun Jul 5, 2009 8:54 pm

Brad Bergesen (5-2, 3.53) vs. Jarrod Washburn (4-6, 3.36 ERA)
Jeremy Guthrie (6-8, 5.20) vs. Erik Bedard (5-2, 2.47)
David Hernandez (2-2, 4.15) vs. Justin Vargas (3-3, 4.14)

Mariners are 4-2 against the O's this year. Perhaps no other team helps show Seattle's pitching dominance in '08: Seattle has given up (in chronological order) 1, 2, 2, 3, 1, and 3 runs to Baltimore in six games, one series at the Safe, the other back East. We lost one game 1-0, the other 3-1. If history is to be repeated, SCORE FOUR RUNS AND WE'RE GOOD!

ahem

Bergesen has shut us down twice. We won one game against him late off of the O's pen. Wash is going to have to bring it, because we haven't shown we can hit him.

It's time for a series sweep here. Sure, I'll take 2-1 against the O's, but I'm getting a little greedy now. Losing this series 1-2, or getting swept would suck, I must say.

I second that.

Washburn a one-hitter through 7 innings, 2 K's and 0 walks. Nice. Gutierrez up to .290 on his batting average, and .352 on his OBP. Nice. Branyan 2nd in the AL in homers now with his 21st tonight. Nice.

Washburn now 8 innings complete with a one-hitter, and a pitch count of only 95. Are we actually going to get a complete game out of a starter tonight? Be nice for the bullpen, wouldn't it?

PS> If Washburn completes the one-hitter, I think the announcer said that it would be the 9th Mariner one-hitter.

First game back from an East Coast roadtrip (especially when you played the day prior) is always tough. Great start to the homestand for the M's. Wash is about to take the mound for the 9th...

ONE HITTER FOR WASHBURN! One hit away from a perfect game.

Washburn was just fantastic. His location was tremendous and he did a good job of keeping the Baltimore hitters off-balance.

Now if only we could keep Bedard healthy for a while.

Oh, and Gutierrez, aka my favorite player, is a beast. So is Branyan.

lol @ Ronny Cedeno. Runner on third with less than two outs TWICE and he strikes out. What a useless piece of trash. Do we really have no SS in our minor league system that can hit better than .140?

in watching that lone hit, it looked like he should have had a strikeout beforehand. The ump had a strange strike zone the entire game. Oh well, if he had struck him out, he may still not have gotten a 1 hitter...

Best pitched game I've seen from him, ever...

Bedard is back tonight. Man, I hope he pitches like he did before his stint on the DL. After giving up a season-high 3 ER (!!) on April 29 to the ChiSox, he gave up 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, and 2 runs up to June 7.

Felix 2.62
Bedard 2.47
Wash 3.08

That's some front-end pitching, boys. Getting WAY ahead of myself, and make note that I'm NOT predicting a postseason appearance, but goodness -- this staff seems built for the playoffs. If we could only squeeze in, we have one of those staffs that could carry us pretty damn deep into October.

Get a bat!

Yeah...I think Gutierrez has become the "player whose jersey I'd be most likely to buy." There's really not a whole lot he does that upsets me. Great defense, good hitting, decent power, good patience at the plate...

Yikes! Full frontral bullpen implosion last night. Didn't get to see the game, but the 5th and 6th innings didn't look pretty.
