With all due respect, Lue is inconsequential. Even if he's signed, that just makes him this season's Weird Slightly Developmentally Disabled Man In a Suit. Hopefully, Lue has the same gravitas in the locker room that Sam had--because he's not going to see the court for any meaningful minutes except in cases of injury, and even then other guys--TA/Pruitt/Hudson--might be better replacements depending on the situation.
The question is: will Lue accept the minimum? He wouldn't last year and went to the Bucks instead for a measly $600,000--and that fact alone makes me not like the guy. I hope we pass. For what he is, he's not important.

Re: Celtics Targetting Lue As Rondo's Backup
Fellas, if Marbury becomes Starbury again, and Boston's the team he's doing that on, then we'll lose a lot more games than we'll need to. Because if his numbers ever get to 20/7 like in the past, that means he's playing over 35 minutes a game, and Rondo is hurt. He won't help this team win in that circumstance. He also won't help the team win in limited time if he's a turnover/wasted trip machine. We need a role player that won't become bigger than the team.
Peter, Archibald and Marbury aren't comparable as players at all, and we're wasting our time looking for superstar numbers from a Backup Point Guard.

Tiny was better but we are getting both guys at the end of their career. They are amazingly comparable career wise. Granted Tiny's highs were better then Starbury. But they were similiar players style wise and have similiar career numbers. Has Marbury now sunk to the Tyrone Lue level? I kind of doubt it considering Lue is on the downside as well.
I can see why we would go with Lue - because maybe Doc wants to play guys like House and Hudson at the point. But I still think Marbury's pedigree puts him way ahead of Lue if we were just looking at them from a pure talent standpoint.
Personally I'd prefer Danny take a flyer at a guy with more youth and upside but who may be able to do the job. I think the list of guys that could match Lue's production is very lengthy. There is just a crap load of PG's out there on the fringes..

I don't think this is even debatable; I agree with this point, but this team needs someone that can fill a role. I don't exactly think Lue is THE guy, but in this particular situation, I'd rather it be Lue over Star. Star will not fit a role, he'll just be Star whether he's productive or not. We don't need that, IMO.
I feel a player like Mardy Collins would be a better fit, and fits a bit into your criteria-- someone younger with a bit of upside that can produce now.

Re: Celtics Targetting Lue As Rondo's Backup
I don't care that Marbury was once one of the best players in this league. We're not about giving lifetime achievement awards. What can they do to help us next year as a backup PG? that's all i'm interested in.
I'll even grant that right now, Marbury is better than Lue. That's not debatable. But that's not the point (sic). The point is Marbs seemed to have no clue how to fill the backup PG spot. He looked completely lost out there given that he could no longer do the things he once did, which frankly he hasn't been able to do for a few years now. Instead of slipping gracefully into a statesman/role player role like PJ or Grant Hill, he has basically gotten completely confused about how to play basketball. In the past his immense talent outweighed his utter lack of BBIQ. no more.
Now maybe he will figure it all out after a TC and a year of playing. But I saw no evidence of that in the 3 months he was with us. 3 months is a long time, and he was physically in shape. He should have been contributing something more than an very occasional burst.
Will he figure it out? Marbury fans say yes. I say I don't want to take the chance. Worse yet, there is the specter of Bad Marbs resurfacing if he finds himself a 3rd string PG (which is not unlikely). Just bring in someone who can be a solid backup, do the simple things, and fill a role. Whether it's Lue or someone else I don't care, but the point is it's not going to be someone significantly better than Lue for the vet min.
