Birdman re-signed

Birdman is re-signed, gonna be official tomorrow. Starting at 3.7 million next year, which isn't too bad for us financially. Now let's focus on getting Frye, a backup SG who can play PG in an emergency, and then another BIG body.

3.7mil for the first year isn't bad, but if we're paying $26mil over 5 years like the article says we might, I think we overpaid.

Regardless, it's good to get this out of the way, now hopefully the little bit of the MLE that we have left will be enough to sign Hill or Frye.

Birdman is the true loyal player who walks the talk that money is not the priority. He could have got a lot more money signing with other teams, but choose to resign with us and even help us with backloading the contract... he's a class act he really cares about us winning

If Bargnani continues to show the improvement he made this past season, especially after the all-star break, it isn't that bad of a deal for the Raptors. If he decides to just be happy with the money though, ouch, LOL.

Good deal. Nice to have this done. Also nice to see that there are a number of incentives in the contract. Now hopefully we can move on another couple guys who can contribute.

I'm interested to know what these "incentives" in his contract are, and if they are included in the overall total of 26 million.

I really am glad that we managed to make this a back loaded contract, but I still think he was paid a little more than he was worth. Then again, after reading about Bargnani's contract, it's kind of hard to make that case.

I'm really glad he got resigned, but at 26m/5 years, i think we overpaid a bit. Considering he's what, 31 this season?

^ 26 million is probably what he's worth. Did you people see what Marcin Gortat just got?

Jerome James and Jared Jeffries got the full MLE. So did Jason Collins and Calvin Booth. Jim McIlvaine got 46 million. Erick Dampier and Chris Kaman got around 60 million.

Chris Andersen just got 26 and will be paid 3.7 next season to be the best shot blocker and backup center in the league.

And honestly, what choice did the FO have when frontloading it means they have to pay luxury tax? Paying him 5 million now means paying him 7-8 million this season in reality.

Kenyon Martin's 16 million per year will be off the books in two years with a 0.05% chance of him opting out.
Chauncey Billups won't command 13 million per year on his next contract.
Steven Hunter is making 3.7 million to sit on the bench and be injured.
Antonio McDyess is making 3.3 million to not play for the team.

I think they can deal with Andersen making 6 million three years from now. Just a hunch.

Great news, good signing, excellent value.

Jones next. We still need another serviceable big. Linus would be nice too.

Right now it's a decent off-season. Get the above done and it'll be better.

By my calculations Birdman is guaranteed right under $21.5 million over the 5 years, with incentives to push it to $26 million. Which is about what i expected Andersen to get. With the way bigs are paid these days we got a decent home town discount type of deal.
