Stephon Marbury or Allen Iverson?

Post#1 » by wfiles » Wed Jul 8, 2009 4:24 pm

Who do you want to start for the Lakers at point guard? We're running out of options now and I don't think the Lakers can go another season with Fisher who's on his last legs.

Marbury would have to sign the BAE which is about $2 million because there's no way Boston would do a sign and trade with us. Iverson wouldn't accept the BAE but we could do a sign and trade with Detroit.

Fisher, but i'd still want an upgrade or hope Farmar steps up.

I think Iverson still wants to be the man, Marbury is a nutcase, I think Phil can only juggle one nutcase @ a time.

No to Starbury nor AI.. I don't think either is a teamplayer and will just ruin the team chemistry..
Rather go w Fish for now, Brown/Farmar has to step up and take over 2nd half or we can get a PG upgrade via trade in season...

Kinda new here guys so please be gentile! lol

I kinda of like the idea that we simply trade with the Ariza to the Rockets for Artest to save both teams MLE, then we can offer that to Sessions and keep D-fish around for coaching purposes. My option number two would be Morrison and Jordan to New York for N. Robinson. Third option Let Kobe or Lamar run the point and dominate every team. Or keep the team as is but RE-SIGN ODOM. All these options are very doable too bad we can't Kirk from the Bulls that would be NICE!!!!!!!!!!

No, and no. I'd gladly take Fish, flaws and all, over those two. Marbury is totally washed up, and AI is the exact opposite of what we need from that position in terms of defense, spot-up shooting and team play.

Resigning Odom is so important to all Laker fans no matter what topic you post it becomes an Odom thread. Buss stop killing us and show him the damm money.

We can't sign free agents so what the hell is Ramon Sessions name doing here? I have heard it many times. It is so insane.

As for the question Marbury or Iverson. Well I say Iverson assuming Odom is resigned. With Odom there im assuming Ron is in healthy mind because Odom can keep him that way, he is the real x factor plus Kobe and Phil. Now Kobe, Phil, Ron all coming at you telling you to be a team player and play the triangle for the team or do what is asked is intimatating. Kobe Bryant because he is the best player ever intimating, Phil because he has 10 rings and Artest is plain old scary intimating.

Plus Iverson has something in it for himself. His legacy. They are saying he is a cancer and has to be the man. Now if he were to play for a championship (which it seems like he is just going for the highest money which is why Ron has moved from not on rador to tied with alltime fav) and signed for the min and played the pg role and played D and yeah even scored because nobdoy on the team is selfish, Odom/Kobe/Artest all love making plays as much as scoring so he got 16 points and 5 assists and they won a ring he would prove he is not a cancer and you can win with him. He should and could be convienced he needs to prove that.

Now if Marbury was 2 years younger I would take him in a second and the reason why is he would gladly give up as many shots as Kobe wanted him to for Kobe and the others, he is 6'2 and is a better long distance 3 point shooter. He is also a real pg. He would be the first real pg the Lakers have had in a long time. Farmar is a real pg but he is not gonna be a Laker much longer so I don't count him.

We can at least OFFER him our MLE if Houston was interested in a straight up trade Ariza for Artest. Wouldn't take much convincing because they would love to have that MLE back as we would! And Sessions is not worth much more than the MLE so if he had a choice between us and the Bucks I'm sure he'd pick the Lake show. Just a thought though I love our team as is including Odom or course but I have also learned to really respect Sessions game. I know it's coming so feel free to let me have it

Pass on Iverson, and on Marbury. But if I had to choose, I'd pick Marbury because Iverson would never want to come off the bench while Marbury has shown he was willing to do that last season. Plus Marbury is the better point guard (which we need) while Iverson is the better scorer (which we don't need right now).

Now if we were in the business of collecting trade pieces that would make it easier to get rid of our bad contracts I would say A.I all day! But if we are talking to keep as our primary Point I wouldn't take either of them, they just don't fit. I like them both though for any other team. Farmer and Brown are young and if given the time can be exactly what we need out of our point guard. We have a triple headed snake at the point when you add D-fish this works for me. But again Kirk would be nice!!!!!!! hahaha

Pass on both.

If no other move is made the current crop should be able to win another ring, particularly if Kobe plays some 1 with Ron at the 2, and giving Shannon a training camp and whole season in the Triangle to see if he's the answer.

If not, next year's FA crop of PG's for the MLE or portion of MLE is decent, with Fisher retiring and Farmar cut loose.

This is an Iverson vs Marbury Post. I dont think you can choose Brown or next year's free agents. Stick to Iverson or Marbury unless you can.
WIth Kobe willing to give up so many shots why not take AI and let him score like crazy, he can still get 28 points and he will open things up for the bigs. AI all the way.

As for the guy who mentioned Sessions
Guys who take less are guys like Mcydess, Joe Smith, Grant Hill probably. Guys who have gotten contracts and are above the age of 30 and winning is #1 priority. Use your head, up and coming young players who never got a big contract are not taking the lle.
Sessions averaged over the last 20 games 14 points 8 assists and 2 turnovers. They drafted a pg in case they couldn't retain him.

Problem isn't offense from the PG position. It's on the defensive side. I'd rather have old man fisher in there than Iverson. Look @ Denver. Basically they got to the WCF by swapping Billups for AI. You get me a PG the caliber of Billups, yea I'll consider.

Let Fish run the PG spot till Brown or Farmar shows they can start. I got faith in Brown. Athletic, just had a little under 1/2 a season to learn the offense. and who knows, maybe Brown will push Farmar like Javaris did.

Also by re-signing Odom, signing Artest, and a more confident Bynum will tighten up the defense in the paint to where it won't matter if our PGs are burnt on the drive from the perimeter. The key will be a no man's land for PGs

Hey Dexmore, I totally agree! Not sure if the Bucks are going to give him more than 5mil but you never know! I like the guy this is my only point. Oh and by the way hello to all the posters Born and raised in Connecticut but have always loved the Lakeshow! I have been reading on here for a while and the only other time I have posted anything is last off season when I was the only person defending keeping Odom, ohh how the times have changed. But I hope I am welcome to post you guys like most L.A fans rock. oh and just to stay on topic "keep team as is"

fish. for one, i already know what im gonna get in crunch time. secondly, he knows hes on his last legs, so what he needs are students open and willing to accept his sage advice about the game. about the tri. about his approach professionally. neither iverson or marbury are willing listeners.
