Rockets to Sign Mystery FA within the next week?

Morey said he is pursuing another free agent, and hoped to announce another signing "in the next week or two." But he said the Rockets mostly likely would acquire a center to replace Yao through a trade this summer.

Hmm, if Morey is really pursuing a center via trade, would that mean we use our MLE on a player that's NOT a big man, after signing Ariza?

We never used our MLE, we signed Trevor with 5.7 Million DPE. I think it's Gortat.

I thought Gortat is heading to Dallas? I assume it will be a SG, maybe Murray?

Assuming Morey does intend to get a C thru trade,a SG makes most sense, altho a SF to back up Ariza if Battier is traded makes sense also.
My guess is Anthony Parker of Toronto for 2yrs at $2.5/3mil./yr. Steady vet who can still run, able to play PG in emergency.
Altho I'd like to see what would happen if they offered the full MLE to Childress.

Obviously it's Allen Iverson. He's the best for tanking.

Anthony Parker was a good pick but he just signed with Cleveland. I think Morey is after a YOUNG shooting guard.

Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

T-Mac United,
Oops.
There aren't any young SGs out there who are good. Rashad McCants can score, but never passes and is truly wretched on D.

Milw prob matches on Sessions.
But what if Rockets have a big trade pending including Brooks/Lowry? 2/3 yr MLE offer to Andre Miller might be on tap.

The best thing about the disabled player exception is that Yao can still play if somehow he is able recover in time (a long shot though). Now with Ariza signed using this disabled player exception, Rockets can go and sign more players to help this season with MLE.

imagine if rockets can compete for a playoff spot and Tmac and yao recovered in time to play in the playoff. Rockets then suddenly have a chance for the title.

With Morey, you know it'll be a head-shaker. He's allergic to the obvious move.

Maybe an international player? Does Loannis Bourousis count as "obvious"?

Yeah. The MLE can be split among multiple players. I don't think the DPE allows that.

well somethign about von wafer being signed w/ the 5.7M

http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/ ... _ariza_yao

wouldnt be a good signing to have wafer for the mle. he's a low level contract player.

shouldnt be von wafer. maybe use the 5.7mil for the trade to get a solid starting center :) . sign and trade w/ wafer too maybe. we'll see in 3-4 weeks :( .

"It opens up the possibility," Morey said to reporters after the Ariza news conference. "I think Von would not have come back for the minimum (salary). We would have wanted him back at the minimum.

"It opens up the possibility now that we've got this exception, that we've got Mid-Level left, that we could bring Von back if it works monetarily for both sides."

Butler is glad that the Rockets are once again an option for Wafer.

"I think it's great for Von," Butler said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "He's always expressed that the Rockets are his first priority. He's tired of moving around and playing for different coaches in different systems.

"He loves his teammates, the coaching staff and the fans."

Morey is not going to give Von much $$. See the bold part. They will probably get Von if they deem he is the best of available FA.

Notable FA still available that can be signed with MLE are:
Von Wafer
Anthony Parker (to Cavs?)
Raymond Felton
Jarrett Jack
Ramon Sessions (highly sought after)
Nate Robinson (Knicks will match?)
Chris Wilcox (no news about him yet)
Andre Miller (no news about him yet)
Allen Iverson (to Griz?)
Rodney Carney (highly sought after see wiretap)

Scola,Landry,Hayes,Dorsey,Harris.
Ariza,Battier,White,Budinger.
McGrady,Taylor,Barry.
Brooks,Lowry.

That's 14,you're only allowed 15. McGrady is tallest player on roster. Yikes!
There's got to be a 2 for1,or 3 for trade brewing.(Or say goodbye to White and his non-guaranteed contract.)

Ioannis Bourousis signed a huge contract in Europe already.
