Lets stay optimistic

Post#1 » by Moochiefried » Thu Jul 9, 2009 3:26 am

It was only a couple years back that we were one of the worst teams in the NBA. Then we got Nash and everything looked better and we started running it down peoples throats. I know we've lost some players, and it doesn't look like were gonna pick up any big pieces this offseason. But I really think we're a long way off from being a bad team, we just had a discouraging season. I still have a lot of faith in our guys. What I hope for next season is that we come of and play like we've got nothing to lose and play like we have something to prove. Its no secret that last season almost everything went wrong, but we've got our old style back and Stoudemire is back...remember how ecstatic we were when Gentry came in and we were killing teams by 30 and putting up 140 a game. So I'm gonna remain optimistic because this isn't the first time that the Suns looked to be in dire straits, and I strongly believe that if our players start to play with passion and our fans get excited again we'll be making an appearance in the playoff next year.

Remember what we're capable of!

PS. I want Tyson Chandler in this system

the only thing we have to lose is basketball games, and I think we can do that. So I'm optimistic about that.

yes'm. Kobe steak was very interested in coming to PHX. Primarily due to Coach Pringles. Big fan, from his days growing up in Italy.

I'm so glad we didn't sign him. F*cking amazing player, i just hate his guts. He's that guy I come up with almost drunken sounding slurs, "You piece of sh*t! [steals ball and hits 32ft 3-pointer at the buzzer like nothing]. That was awesome!"

Did we make a contract offer to Kobe? Or were we just interested?

No, we're not staying optimistic. My only optimism is that Clark turns out to be what I expect of him and puts up 11/6/2/1/1 in his first year. Other than that, I don't want Chandler, and I want Richardson gone for an expiring.

I'm really hoping that Clark shows some skills during summer league, so Gentry decides to start him. We need at least ONE of our highly touted rookies to develop into a special player, and I think Clark can be that guy.

All I basically ask out of the Suns, in general, is to decide where they're going and go there, balls to the wall. If we're rebuilding, then do it the right way, from scratch, getting the exact pieces you want. If it's to compete, then freaking compete.

Its over for this teasm, the best thing to do is hit that damn reset buton and move on. Nash and Stoudemire sould be shopped this season for younger player. send Nash to Portland and send Stoudemire to Golden State. Those two teams are the only ones that can give you enough young players and picks to help rebuild this team.

Good luck with Nash to POR. Its really really really hard to make the # match up. They would have to give up like 4-5 players and players like Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Rudy, Bayless, Przybilla are all off-limits. Ive tried and tried to make it work, but it wont. I think later in the year they will go after Hinrich. Nashs creativity will also be stifled in McMillens half court system, and lets be honest, creativity is about all Nash has left at this point. Send him to NYC for Lee(resigned)+pick+filler. Keep STAT. Hes young, hes a STUD, hes a Star, and he is exactly the type of player that you are supposed to build around. Develop Dragic (he will be a good PG and i love his defense!) Develop Clark.Build around a lineup of:

Dragic
Barbosa
Clark
Stat
Lee

All are young and talented. The key is we need to develop these players. Look at what Portland has done. We need to buy some draft picks (seeming how we have given ours away) and work with our young talent. It amazes me at the line-up Portland has and how much they are paying their players because they got them BEFORE they blew up and developed them. There is a recurring theme here.

Develop.
Develop.
Develop.
Develop.
DEVELOP!!!!!!!!!

Nash, Dragic
J-Rich, Barbosa
Hill/Dudley, Tucker
Frye, Clark, Lou
Amare, Lopez = 7th seed at best and Automatic 1 and done in playoffs

There's a very fine line between optimism and denial in my opinion. Teams have gotten better around us, and we have gotten older, and poorer on our roster. You can't compare our situation when we got Nash and D'Antoni to our situation now. We already had a core in place. Marion, JJ, Amare, Barbosa, Q. There were 3 all stars on the team before he got here. Then we *ADDED* an MVP AND a coach of the year to the roster.

What now? We lost Marion. We lost JJ. We added two past prime all stars Shaq and Hill, and lost them again. Also since then, we added and lost Tim Thomas, Kurt Thomas, Raja and Diaw. Lost Marion. Lost D'Antoni. Nash is out of his prime and on the decline. We could very well lose Nash too.

I fail to see how this is an optimistic situation. If we tank, we have no pick to get us into the lottery. If we push for the playoffs, we can look forward to an early exit at best.

Lol

Seriously... some fans here just need to stop wishing and blaming.

The Suns were elite and exciting, too good to be true... well it was true.
In a way the Suns "compromised" their future to be exciting and elite at the same time.
Selling picks and not playing rookies... heck trading them.... because D'Antoni wanted veterans who can shoot and run within his offense.

Well Suns are in a way paying for that.

The only realy bummer I think was the K.Thomas trade.... that two unprotected draft picks technically will extend the Suns rebuilding phase 2 years....

Point 1... NO TO CHANDLER!... GET OVER IT!! he wont do $hit in this team, sitting down on the bench injured and colleting 12 Million dollars for the next 2 years.

Point 2... You can add Marion, Chandler, Dalembert... ALL of them... and the Suns will still LOSE to the elite teams in the NBA currently... If you pay attention the league since Celtics acquired the big 3... have adjusted that the elite teams.. has become SUPER TEAMS. Heck, even the Suns with Joe Johnson, Shawn Marion, Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Quentin Richardson... would struggle to beat them... playoffs atleast anyways.

Point 3... Kerr might be a questionable GM, but I think he is smart. He knows basketball.. sure he's GM skills are novice, thats because HE IS novice.... Sarver also is the owner who signs the GM's paycheque.. so you listen to him... even if it makes you look bad as GM, because technically he is the owner and you listened to him. Sarver isnt that evil... firing someone for following his orders.

Point 4.... I will be more optimistic if the Suns just don't do anything drastic, play with the current lineup. Play the young guys as much as possible. Because its looking like the Suns are on 8th spot due to some of the west teams undegoing injuries and such.
You can add 3-4 players, spend $20 Million and it wont increase the Suns chances of winning a ring... same result either way.. first round loss.

Point 5... relax and look forward to an uphill battle this season, it'll hopefully bring the best out of Stoudemire so Suns can atleast get value for him later on, or atleast see his worth long term. Nash.. well, he carried the Suns when they were good so you cant fault him leading them now that they are bad... its part of everyone's career.. to go through the best and worst time with your team.

You fans should just be optimistic PERIOD.... being negative isnt good for your mental health! :-)
