Southwest Division

Post#1 » by houstonPG » Thu Jul 9, 2009 2:27 am

Going without Yao and likely McGrady is tough this upcoming season, even worse is that the Southwest Division is getting so strong.

San Antonio: McDyess, Duncan, Jefferson, Ginobili and Parker
Dallas: Gortat, Nowitzki, Marion, Howard and Kidd
Memphis: Gasol, Randolph, Gay, Mayo and Conley
New Orleans: Chandler, West, Stojakovic, Peterson and Paul
HOUSTON: Scola, Landry, Battier, Ariza and Brooks

Lets hope Morey is able to bring some nice surprises for us in the next few weeks. In Morey we trust!!

Not really worried about Hornets and Griz.

The current rocket team (without Yao and Tmac) had beaten Hornets at their homecourt in last season and the hornets did not really improve much this season. Furthermore, the Hornets has the highest salary and with the lower luxury tax threshold, they are probably working hard to reduce their salary and will be weakened in the process.

Griz has changed with Zach but not sure if that is +ve or -ve effect.

I dont think we should overlook Memphis cuz those youngsters grow pretty fast, especially Mayo and Gasol. With some veterans help and new coach, you never know. Though I agree that New Orleans will only get worst when they are trying to dump salary. Maybe they will have Ben Wallace instead of Chandler next year.

They got Zach Randolph, Gay hasn't been any good yet, and Mayo has been Marginal at best. Granted, Mayo was a rookie last year, and they're prone to jumping, but Gay's going into his 4th year and is likely to continue to be what he is.

Why should we worry about them, again?

You answered your own question. :D

I think we're below the Spurs and Mavs, and are on par with the Hornets. I won't be surprised if we finish 8th in the West.

Dallas just got softer after losing Bass. Marion is a soft addition. I'd rather have bass than Marion. Grizzlies will become worst with Randolph. San Antonio is going to be good though. Ginobili and Parker seems like they're injury prone though.

Marion and Gortat bring an entirely new dynamic to Dallas. While they were trying to be a tough defensive team there for a while (and at times failing), by adding these two guys I think they will return to the run and gun style that they had under Nelly.

Both Marion and Gortat want to run, and Kidd is best in the open court. You already know that Dirk is as soft as cotton, so as long as he's running and not having to post up and bang he'll be ok.

You're right that Dallas got softer, but their entire offensive focus is likely to change as a result and this softness won't necessarily be a problem... until they reach the playoffs.

rasual butler is the sg for new orleans. mo peterson is in byron scott's doghouse
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

I think we'll have a better record than Memphis at the end of the year. 28 wins is my guess.
