"I'm the better shooter, he's the better rebounder...
- that's the only difference between me and Kevin. Everything else is just the same."
- Rasheed, in both the press conference and the interview after.
Hilarious. Sheed's a talented guy but c'mon. They're not exactly "mirror images" as he claimed in the interview. The fact that he had to repeat it twice in the same day tells you something about the guy's ego. Kevin laughed it off and said they'll have to see about that on a private court...
It's gonna be an entertaining season.

Kevin (not just Rasheed) also said that he's thought they were mirror images since they were rookies.
Seeing the player Garnett has become in Boston, why not? All Garnett does on offense is shoot jumpers, and if Rasheed is as good at defensive communication as it seems, he may just be a mirror of Garnett. Just not as consistent.
Garnett was a monster in Minny, though, Rasheed could never touch that.

Watching these two play together is going to be interesting, I cant even begin to imagine what kind of havoc a Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett, and Wallace line could bring. I was all amped up for the Pats season, now I cant stand to wait for the C's in October.

Well, Rasheed is...
A. Absolutely. positively not a better shooter than Kevin (that may have been true their first 3-4 years in the league). Just a better 3-point shooter.
B. Not as good of a passer
C. Doesn't play with as much heart and passion
D. Not a leader
Kevin was being nice but he's a much better player than Sheed. We're comparing a HOFamer - one of the greats to a very good player here.
Can't wait to see them playing together. Man this is going to be fun.

not that long ago, Sheed was often cited as having the talent to have been in the discussion for best PF ever..like Duncan (and KG if he gets another ring, championships count).
Sheed has always been recognised as one of the the best post defenders in the league and plays the "long rangy PF" just like KG.
If Sheed gets his intensity level up, then I can see it.
KG's intensity though is what sets him apart from pretty much everyone...

And that is the crux of the issue when comparing KG to any player.
In my observation:
Sheed is a better 3-PT shooter, post defender and man defender.
KG is a better mid-range shooter, passer, rebounder and is one of the best ever help defenders (due in large part to his intensity.)

At his best and motivated, Wallace was as good as anyone in the NBA. He is a terrific player. He is a better shooter than KG because he can shoot it deeper.
Wallace is a bit of a headcase, but skill-wise he has everything that would be required to be a great player. He isn't a great player, I am not saying that, but when Detroit acquired Sheed they did win an NBA title. he was the reason they went over the top. He is a terrific player, though he has never put it all together consistently.
That's the difference between a HOF like garnett, and a talented all-star caliber player like Sheed....consistency.

If KG can light a fire under Sheed this season we could seriously see some awesome things come from this guy

Re: "I'm the better shooter, he's the better rebounder...
To be fair to Wallace he has always been in a winning situation, he has played in conference final after conference final while KG made it out of the first round once before last year. It just shows the level of talent they played with so Wallace isn't going to have the same stats as KG. But both have career TS% of 54% and Wallace has eFG% of 51% and KG 50%, Wallace is a little better in the postseason add in Wallace has 3 pt range and is actually better with his back to the basket if he ever goes there and I guess you could give him the nod if you try really hard.
But it doesn't quantify the stark difference rebounding the ball, defense, energy and athleticism. We have watched Garnett dominate Wallace one on one.
I don't want him lacking in confidence coming into this situation, looking back I think Marbs did and it cost him. Maybe this will KG to work on stepping back behind the line again.

Garnett does NOT ONLY shoot jumpers. Yes, that's the majority of his scoring, but it's not all he does.
If Rasheed is the better jumpshooter, how come he's never averaged 20 ppg for an entire season when KG has done it the majority of his career?
I realize sheed was prolly just messin, but the only thing sheed has on KG is 3 point shooting. I'd take KG from anywhere else on the court.

It's funny that so many people really do consider this a valid comparison, but no matter how you look at it it's really a blowout. Aschburner had an article a couple of years ago that looked at the comparison in some depth, and some unnamed scout was willing to give Sheed a bit of an advantage between them http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/w ... e.garnett/ . But in reality, this isn't that good of a comp. KG destroys him in just about any way that you care to look at it. Sheed may have had the physical talent to be comparable to KG or Duncan, but what he's actually produced on the court has been nowhere close.
The REALLY cool thing, though, is that now it no longer matters. Sheed doesn't have to come in and compete with KG...except in practice (which, by the way, I might pay to actually see). Now they get to work togeher and make nightmares for their opponents...and I love it.

I don't think Sheed ever had anything close to KG's athleticism. Sheed isn't a bad athlete but KG was a freak. Nowadays the gap is smaller of course.

Re: "I'm the better shooter, he's the better rebounder...
I think even Rasheed knows KG is better. I think he's just joking around a bit since over the years KG has made significantly more money than Rasheed from day one. Anyway, in Sheed, we're going to have a very good post defender and hopefully he'll be on the blocks a bit more offensively. That is one area of the game I feel he's much better than KG, in that he is can score consistently with his back to the basket--or at least he did in the past. That helps open up the perimeter, including KG.
Garnett's versatility gives us a chance to go big, too. KG can play the SF spot at times on the court and putting Wallace at PF doesn't give us a dropoff in talent or height... So just like when LA goes with Bynum/Gasol/Odom on their opponent, we can go Sheed/Perk/KG no problem and provide a great defensive big-man front.

He wasn't just joking around. That's the reason I posted this. He said the same thing in an interview after the press conference. Dead serious.
This is not a controversy or anything to fret over, just an amusing glimpse into his ego.

I for one am glad for his Ego, at least in Boston. Sheed and KG are going to fire each other up and as a result the rest of the team. If we can stay healthy, I think this thing is over before it begins.
