Why not do a T-mac for Josh Howard/Dampier deal ....

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Fri Jul 10, 2009 4:53 pm

Why not do a T-mac for Josh Howard/Dampier deal now that the Mavs have picked up Marion?

The Mavericks obviously need a SG now because Howard isn't one.

Rockets can move Ariza to SG and have Josh at SF.

A lineup of:

PG Brooks
SG Ariza
SF Josh Howard
PF Scola
C Yao (when he returns) or Dampier for now.

Is pretty solid.

Edit: Actually need to add Dampier in to make the deal work.

Dallas might do it because there looking to get rid of dampiers contract because there bringing in Gortat. Tmac if he comes back healthy could make them a very scary team in the playoffs especially when your tlaking about a lineup with Kidd marian and nowitzki

Apparently Dallas thinks Dampier is the key to them landing a superstar to place alongside Dirk:

Also like Max said, I don't want to deal with Howard's off-court issues. Josh Howard isn't that good of a player to begin with, and I want NOTHING to do with Dampier. I think this is one of those lineups that looks a lot better on paper than it would on the basketball court. I also think we'd be better off from a basketball and financial standpoint if we just kept Mcgrady or waited for a more enticing offer.

If there was a Dallas trade-and there's not going to be one-I'd much rather see Battier, maybe Dorsey to Dallas,Dallas sending Josh to GS to reunite w/Nellie and Houston getting Andris Biedrins from GS.

McGrady is not getting traded this season. Because as soon as FA can sign next off-season the Rockets can sign McGrady to any size contract w/out it being a BYC and then trade him and a couple of Firsts for any FA they can get.(Only a couple mil of McGrady's gets guaranteed, the Rockets include cash to buy him out,and he's a FA again. He gets a couple of mil to agree to deal and everybody's happy! Eventually the commish will put a stop to this sort of deal, but not yet and as seen by Yao's injury exception, his office looks favorably upon the Rockets.)
So unless somebody blows away Morey w/a great offer,he's going to save McGrady for a 2010 shopping spectacular.

Dampier's contract is not guaranteed next season. It's an instant 13M off the book as a trade filler. The Mavs are fishing big with Damp's contract.

T-Mac doesn't seem to be healthy again. It's all too risky to part with Howard. I suggest another one instead:

T-Mac + Landry
for
Damp (exp) + Buck (non-guaranteed) + Shawne Williams (SF/PF) + Nathan Jawai (C/PF) + Humphries (PF) + Matt Carroll + Thunder's 2nd + right to Shan Foster and Nick Calathes

Would you do it?

Basically Tmac + Landry for bunch of scrubs. Do you trade 2 cars for 7 bicycles? Tmac's contract is very valuable whether he can play or not.

There's a rumor going around of a potential Dampier for Redd deal, that'd be interesting.

Crap. I posted in here but it doesn't seem to have shown up.
Basically "Dampier mainly sucks because of his contract. His production is perfectly reasonable, especially on a per-36 basis, and he actually has decent win scores."

There 2 thread in the main board that Magic will match and retain Gortat. In that case, Dallas will not trade Dampier or else they don't have a serviceable C.

1. Dallas doesn't want your busted player.
2. Howard is barely even going to be a SG next season anyway. You realize the Mavs still have Jason Terry as the 6th man of the year, and his only two positions are PG and SG. He has to get nearly 30 minutes, most of which will come at SG. Howard may spend 10-15 minutes per game at SG. He's also perfectly capable of playing SG.
