Shannon will start be our starting pg for the next 5 at least unless a fluke trade or signing happens for a star pg. They might let Fisher start this year being his last year and all but in after 5 games Brown would take the starting job and here is why
1.He is a sg, listed as sg and played sg whole career. I would rather have a 2 in the triangle offense at the point then a point. A point is just having a short guy for no reason and wasting a playmakers talents.
2.He is an excellent 3 point shooter. Yes Pargo can shoot the3 to but that's really his only thing.
3.He is not 6'7 like Ron Harper but he is 6'3 and very muscler and played sg his whole career so he is used to guarding big players. He can guard the sg's and even sf's. Yes sg's and sf's. Phil used to run a defensive skem with the sf/sg/pg rotating on D and switching off and now they can do that again.
4,He can guard any pg and guard them well. He hasn't even come close to his potential on the defensive end either. Think about a starting year with Kobe and Artest teaching him D and Phil as well. He is quick enough to guard the fastest pg and more muscular then I think every single pg out there. Kobe/Artest/Brown gives us the best defensive peremiter team in league.
5.He is super athletic and can get to the rim. Pargo is pretty skinny and I don't see him dunking on anybody. Assuming the Lakers resign Odom they go with Gasol/Odom/Artest/Kobe/Brown. They can play an uptempo offense because Gasol is faster then all centers, Odom faster then pf's and with Artest and Kobe getting steals and turnovers they Brown will be getting brake away dunks. Dunks on people in traffic and with confidence he can go to the rack in the halfcourt. Pargo can what pull up and take a long range shot compared to a dunk?
6.I know he won't keep it up but per 37 minutes last year he averaged roughly 16 points 5 rebounds a steal and 2.5 assists. Of couse low assists but our pg's don't get assists our sg's and forwards do. He averaged 52 percent from the field and 66 percent from 3.
In the playoffs which you know he was nervous while chaning position from sg to halfsg (laker pg is not full pg) per 39 minutes he averaged 15 points 3 boards and 1.5 steals. His % was 43 from the field and 48 from 3. To do that in the playoffs and last games of season means something.
If he starts he will get into a groove and he will score more and shoot well and get into hot steaks. That was a total of 40 games. I know playing with the starters means less shots but it also means more open shots easy baskets, alley opps with his athletism (he can be in a dunk contest) so you gota think with Fisher gone next year Brown will average no less then 13 and possibly 16 if he reaches his full potential.
7.He is only in his 3rd year and he has only played 92 regular season games, WIth the amount of minutes he has played he is basically coming off a rookie year and he is only 23.
8.Kobe and Artest-Brown is even listed at 6'4 some places so Im guessing he is a legit 6'3 so he will probably be playing 1 on 1 with Kobe and Artest all the time. I think that alone will make him so much better. They say he doesn't work out. I don't know if that was a joke but if it's true them 2 can take him under there wing, work out with him he would probably be the strongest guard in the league. Since he is athletic and can score in a number of ways and play D they will want to teach him. Pargo I don't see that happening with. Pargo is just another backup stopgap.
9.Pargo will be going into his 7th season and he always averages a low percentages from the field he just shoots a decent 3ball. He has to take alot of shots to average 8 points and he aint getting better. The Chris Paul's will blow by him and the Billups will kill him in the post. Potentially Brown can blow by anybody and post up anybody and nobody has those advantages on him, of course people can score on anybody but you get it.
I was very upset when the Lakers signed Brown for 2 years because if Treva Ariza can get the full midlevel if im right and Brown gets even 13 points a game he is gonna get a big offer. We should of signed him to a 5 year deal. Even if I was wrong just to have a backup 1/2 is worth it but he is something else. I didn't see his potential when he was on the Bobcats because in that system it wasn't there. In the triangle he could be a stud. There could literally be times if Bynum is out they go to Gasol first then Artest and Brown third and of course Kobe waits to the 4th quarter.
hahaha, can i quote the bolded bit and post it every time you make a post on anything? because thats a geunine insane comment, one that is also wrong
your first 3 points rely on the lakers running the triangle past this year and with pj on the verge of retiring that doesn't look likely. brown is a solid body but theres no way he gets large minutes on any team in his career, hes too limited on offense, his passing isn't up to scratch, no real outside game, cant create his own shot with any regularity, at the moment he is an athletic undersized shooting guard who is a strong defender. i still put farmar ahead of him, shannon is a better defender than jordan farmar clearly but its not like shannon brown is lock down or anything close. farmar's poor defense is overplayed, hes really good offensively, creating and making.
