OT - Steven A Smith says Lebron going to NY at end of season

Post#1 » by Octolor » Sat Jul 11, 2009 1:40 am

Its on the WEEI website, here is the link:

http://audio.weei.com/m/24534630/stephe ... nsider.htm

I know the guy is very loud etc. but this is a great interview.

He touches on a number of interesting topics:

1. In the inner circles it is known that Lebron is leaving Cleveland. NY provides him the opportunity to be a global icon and play the role as savior for both the Knick franchise and NBA.

2. Boston has NO chance of getting Lebron.

3. Unfortunately some players still connotate Boston as a racist city. He mentions that Rasheed Wallace coming to Boston because of the players and franchise and not the city. He is very eloquent discussing the subject. Smith does a great job articulating what a person of color experiences in Boston that most may not realize.

Anyway it looks like Cleveland is screwed. They might be smart to trade this guy and get something. Otherwise this franchise will be decimated when Lebron departs.

Yea just like we were offering Dahntay Jones 4 mill a year. Steven A. doesn't know shnit.

It would be quite funny to see Lebron leave Cleveland high and dry next year though. I can bet you Mo Williams won't be jumping up and down on the bench like a jackass after a routine play anymore.

Im sick of hearing from Stephen A Smith or Michael Wilbon saying how athletes dont want to come to Boston because it is a racist city. There is racism EVERYWHERE!

We absolutely still have a problem with race in this city. Ironically a great example of this is the incident where those idiots whose show steven a was on (Dennis and Callahan) talking about the gorrilla who escaped and calling it the "metco gorilla".

If I was a black athlete I wouldn't want to play in Boston either.

The Smiths of the world (Sam and Steven) have 0 use as a source.

They know nothing and seem to just make stuff up.

This just in: C-West predicts that the sun will come up tomorrow in the east and Stephen A. Smith will say something stupid the next time he talks. Did he actually think this was some kind of cutting edge prediction? Did he think it was original to rip Boston as supposedly "racist?" I'll throw a party the next time one of these idiots recognizes the racial contribution the Celtics have made to the NBA. First black player, first black coach, first all black starting five . . . Hello??? I live in LA, and guess what???? There are racists all over the place here. I went to a DKM concert in Orange County and the place was littered with skinhead scum straight out of American History X (which took place in . . . Los Angeles). Quite frankly, this guy is a moron and I still can't believe that responsible, professional journalists like Aldridge got moved aside for lame side-show gimmicks like him.

as much as i hate the knicks, and lebron james, him leaving the cavs for nothing is funny as ****. 1, cavs become bottom 10 team in the league right off the bat, and the knicks have nothing to put around james because of little talent now, and not enough room in cap to get 2 because of the drop.

perfect situation for us.

Lebron is a one man show.... and I meant that as a compliment. He took a cavs team that 2nd and 3rd best players were Drew Gooden and Larry Hughes to the finals. Put Lebron on the knicks and they are probally still a top 4 team in the east.... if they can get some good players to team him up with then watch out.

It seems from most of the replies here that none of you bothered to listen to the interview.

You're just as bad as the media folks you're bashing.

Smith didn't take a cheap shot at the city but was asked by Felger do get into the nitty gritty of the long held belief by NBA players that Boston is a racist city.

Smith told of a couple of instances that happened to him in Boston.

Additionally, his talk about the Lebron situation seems pretty spot on.

I personally think he is going to NY.

Have to say, I've been reading a lot of the posts here recently and a lot of you are flat out morons.

I heard the interview and frankly the idea that a bunch of drunk white guys said something ignorant to black kid does not make Boston a racist city. What is NYC if my lilly white ass walks through Brownsville and somebody calls me "Whitey." Anyone who thinks Boston is racist should give Philly a try.

I think he is totally talking out of his ass about LeBron and NYC. I think LeBron is signing an extension this offseason, obviously this is going to screw someone inside LeBron's inner circle who has a vested interest in either him going to NYC or at least keeping the idea alive. But 50 million dollars is 50 million dollars, WTF he is not going to give that **** up to be a Knick, they aren't the friggin Yankees it is the Knicks and nobody has to take less to be a Yankee.

My inside sources tells me LeBron is not a stupid MF and is going to sign a 3 year extension with his hometown team that has done nothing but open the damn check book and let him play GM. With the extra jack and he buy a plane and build an apartment behind home plate at the new Stadium and go see as many Yankee games as he wants.

The reason people go to NYC is to make friggin money. Signing for less and playing on a **** team are not going to make LeBron more money, with a 50 mil cap the dream of bringing LeBron and another max star to NY are dead if it ever was alive to begin with.

Smith said "one of the New York teams", The Nets where he could play with a point guard is a more likely destination.

How many times were the Knicks on national tv last year? How about the Cavs? It doesn't matter where Labron plays he will continue to be over exposed.

And for the record there is nothing in his Nike contract that says he get more if he plays in NY or LA.

Keep in mind, Cleveland could have enough dough to resign Labron AND sign Wade. Or he could join Wade in Miami Fla, a state with no income tax.

And Steven A is an idiot. I admitted he hasn't heard a racial slur in Boston in over ten years and its not the only city he has heard them. "Shut up Jackass!" is not a racial slur.

The Nets have about as good a chance of going to NYC as NYC has of getting LeBron.

Fine, Stephen A has a couple of "instances" of racism in Boston, well guess what, the entire state of California, and better than 50% of its voters are confirmed backwards bigots. The last election is proof.

It is insane for Boston to be singled out as racist. I have lived here, and in San Diego for the better part of my adult life, and guess what, I would argue the racism in San Diego was far more prevalent, and visible. The minute men come to mind, then again they were against immigration, not Mexicans, so they're not racist...please.

The words you chose are sort of round abouts racialist. Those words play into the stereotype that black people do not know how to speak properly. Whenever a black person in the media discusses something in depth and uses proper grammar those words are always used. It seems to make a racialist presumption.
