It may or may not be a "racist" city, but it is still perceived as if it is! When the Sheed Introduction took place on Thursday, Both Paul and Ray said in separate interviews with Dickerson, that it was one of the first questions out of Sheed, along with the weather! Also wasn't that the same thing we heard when KG was rumored to not want to come here?!

SAS is a moron. Plain and simple. Why does anyone really care what this douche bag has to say?

I don't really want to defend Octolor, because he said some stupid things and appears to be a jerk, but you're off here.

Whites are accused of being subconsciously racist when they say a black person who speaks very well is "articulate." What they mean is "eloquent." Which is a compliment. Thing is, Stephen A. Smith isn't particularly eloquent. He is articulate, which isn't a compliment, but just a statement saying he can speak proper English. The fact that he yells really loudly and puts an exclamation point after every word doesn't make him eloquent.

As for Octolor's use of the word "articulating," that simply means "laying out" or "explaining." Nothing racial about it.

3. Unfortunately some players still connotate Boston as a racist city. He mentions that Rasheed Wallace coming to Boston because of the players and franchise and not the city. He is very eloquent discussing the subject. Smith does a great job articulating what a person of color experiences in Boston that most may not realize.

The words you chose are sort of round abouts racialist. Those words play into the stereotype that black people do not know how to speak properly. Whenever a black person in the media discusses something in depth and uses proper grammar those words are always used. It seems to make a racialist presumption.

it is not explicitly racial, its just that those word have been used so many times as a sort of subconscious way whites put themselves above blacks. Those words are almost never used to describe a white person. Articulate especially. Perhaps when describing a child who has a vocabulary beyond his age. But do you see the point? It makes the assumption that most black people are not articulate when you go out of your way to point out someone who is (and I'm not saying Smith even is.)

Its not in any way racist its just something to be aware of. I added it half for humor to point out the racial undertones in a thread defending Boston from racist allegations.

You're grasping at straws in your attack on me.

For the record I did not call Steven A Smith articulate, which is an adjective. Please reread my posting and note that the word articulating is a verb.

Give me a break, you're a disgrace to your avatar.

I suggest you listen to the interview though, it was great.

well according to this article, a player agent thinks the knicks are going to have a hard time signing free agents because they are irrelevant and the only thing keeping the rumors alive is the ny media. (see: espn and that numbnuts smith).

Please do not take it as an attack. I suggest you reread the thread to see who has been attacking.

I am only contributing to this thread to try to make a point: right or wrong certain word have a racialist undertone to them. An educated person does not go around saying words with racialist overtones and neither should they speak in a manner of undertones. There are so many words to chose from.

I really don't want this to be viewed as an attach because it is not. I'm not accusing you of anything. I am merely pointing out that certain word choices, while perfectly legitimate carry with them racialist undertones. I say all this not to attack you but to edify.

Back to the topic of the SAS interview, SAS at this point is just looking for controversial spins to put on things because he has lost his job and fears becoming irrelevant.

Are black people being racist when they call a white person "cool"? Does that imply that its abnormal for a white person to be cool?

Lets not overthink this whole "undertone" stuff. If someone takes offense by being called articulate, then eff them.

Regarding LeBron to New York, to me thats a done deal. He is too big to stay in Cleveland and Danny Ferry isn't building a team thats going to win a bunch of championships over the next ten years.

LeBron and Bosh will end up in New York in 2010, surrounded by Nate Robinson, Wilson Chandler, Chris Duhon, Jordan Hill, Danilo Gallinari, and some big name FA veterans that go there for cheap in order to play next to LeBron (Camby, maybe Ray Allen, etc).

The only shame in this is that the Knicks are going to stink next season and they don't have a draft pick. I'm sure that Stern would've handed them John Wall if they'd only gotten in the top-5.

Oh well, that team is going to be great in 2010 even if they had LeBron and Bosh with the Washington Generals supporting them.

It is insane for Boston to be singled out as racist. I have lived here, and in San Diego for the better part of my adult life, and guess what, I would argue the racism in San Diego was far more prevalent, and visible. The minute men come to mind, then again they were against immigration, not Mexicans, so they're not racist...please.

If I was a black athlete I wouldn't want to play in Boston either.

D and C made a joke, get over it already. Just state your agenda and say you hat their politics.
