would you trade for Marcin Gortat?

Post#1 » by Nyce_1 » Sat Jul 11, 2009 6:01 am

Magic fan here.

If you had a chance to trade for Gortat, what would you guys realisticly offer the magic?

We need bigs and/or PG.

Thanks

Chuck hayes. If not, I'd offer him 2.5-3 million a year that he's worth.

They won't give up Anderson. They're looking to add more bigs to their squad and Anderson is their only big man backing up Dwight.

If they need a big, they shouldnt come to us. They are trading away there backup big because we have no big. They can take Hayes like aznkillabeezZz said. PG? I thought we already gave you one PG in Alston. You want another one? You should have asked when we had Steve Francis to spare.

Well, Orlando could get away with Chuck Hayes playing center alongside Brandon Bass. Afterall Chuck Hayes is one of the best low post defenders in the league. Orlando also could bring in another euro big (see Gortat & Kasun) and let him develop behind Howard (and Hayes).

A possible trade would be Gortat for Hayes (and Battier for Orlando's TPE).

Theoretically Landry and Lowry would work, but isn't Gortat a BYC for next yr and won't that make any trade rather complicated?
Just don't see it happeneing, esp if Hou could have offered the full MLE originally and didn't.

You can't combine players with the TPE. The deals would have do be separate.

I doubt Morey will trade Lowry for Gortat; who'd Brooks' backup? Maybe Landry, but Orlando doesn't really need Landry after adding Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson. Gortat will be a BYC player, so his 'trade value' will be 50% of his first year salary, which will be $5.8 mil. That'd make $2.9 mil +-125% +$100,000, so Orlando could trade him for someone between $2.075 and $3.725 mil (= Hayes, Landry, Scola or Cook).

Please correct me if I mixed things up / got the numbers wrong.

Why not? Give you a quality big man. Got great numbers coming off the bench for the magic...

C - Gortat
PF - Scola
SF - Ariza
SG - T-Mac
PG - Brooks

Bench - Lowry, Hayes, Jermaine Taylor, Landry, Dorsey, Barry, Yao, Cook, James White

Yea, he was on the bench playing behind one of the best centers in the NBA. He would start for you. If you look at his 36-mins Stats, you will see 10.9 points, 13 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, while shooting 57%. Plus in Houston's offense he will contribute more than he did in Orlando. The Magic didn't need him to be a scorer...

He's a 7'0 athletic big man. Not to many of those.

X-,
The problem w/trading Gortat is that as a BYC player his salary only counts 50% towards what the Magic send out,but counts 100% to a team over cap receiving him.
So for trade purposes only,he's a $2.9mil contract for the Magic, but to any team over cap he's a $5.8mil contract. The Rockets have to trade contract(s) w/in 25% of $5.8mil,while the Magic are only trading away $2.9mil. Both teams are over cap so to get around it the teams would have to be creative, which the CBA has some wonderful loopholes for creative GMS.
For example-AND ONLY AS AN EXAMPLE!-
The teams combine two trades,Landry for Gortat and Lowry for the Dooling Exception and a First.
The Rockets send out $3mil and $2.034mil which is w/125% of Gortat's $5.8mil.
The Magic send out Gortat's trade valued $2.9mil and a TE of $2.034mil which is w/in 125% of salaries received.

Yea I mixed things up a little I guess, thanks for correcting me. The Magic already used the the Dooling TPE in the Vince Carter deal. It was Alston, Lee & Battie for Carter and the Dooling TPE for Anderson, just in case you didn't know that ;).
