Rounding out the roster

Post#1 » by Pula_86 » Fri Jul 10, 2009 1:23 am

It seems that unless a trade with Z is imminent that the Cavs are just waiting to use the BAE, the rest of the MLE, and perhaps the vets minimum. Based on probable salary demands and status as a restricted FA, you take Glen Davis, Linas Kleiza, and Josh Childress off the board for the Cavs. The best options appear to be the following:

PF Leon Powe
PF Joe Smith
SG/SF Gerald Green
SG Von Wafer
SG/SF Marquis Daniels
SG Fred Jones
PF/C Jason Collins
PF/C Channing Frye
PF Chris Wilcox
SG Desmond Mason
SG/SF Matt Barnes
SG Rashad McCants
PF/C Jarron Collins

I would be happy to see Matt Barnes for the rest of the MLE, Leon Powe for the BAE, and Jarron Collins for the vets minimum

PG Delonte West/Daniel Gibson
SG Mo Williams/Matt Barnes
SF Lebron James/Anthony Parker
PF Varejao/Leon Powe/JJ Hickson
C Shaq O'Neal/Big Z/Jarron Collins

Daniels / Barnes / Frye / Wafer seem like the best options.

the best options are a trade

I fail to see which of those players has a chance of making Mike Browns rotation

Frye looked okay in New York and was buried in Portland.. I might take a chance on him as the 5 is still the biggest need

I think Joe Smith would look okay next to Shaq for a few minutes but I've read he's wanted elsewhere

Certainly sounds lke the organization has identiefied Frye from that list, and I'm fine with that.

I'm inclined not to add any more money to 2010 so we can stay bidding above the MLE thought, so I'd choose Joe Smith on a 1 year deal.

Powe is injured.

I don't really like him but maybe Ferry takes a look at Big Baby?

He did alright defensively in the post last year and can hit a 15 footer.

I would love it if the Cavs signed Glen Davis. He would help against the pick and roll and give the Cavs a 4 who can shoot. I have a feeling he will get the MLE on the open market. The Cavs can only offer 2.7 million of the 5.7 MLE. I am a big fan of Leon Power although he is limited offensively. He is just a warrior on the inside and is not afraid to mix it up. I would be overjoyed if we signed him to the BAE.

I think Matt Barnes would be a good addition to the roster off the bench. His length would be a tremendous help in the play-offs. He is versatile enough to play the 2/3 position. I would wait on the veteran's minimum to see if anybody is released in the next few months such as a Bruce Bowen or Tony Battie who were throw in to previous trades.

SG Mo Williams/Matt Barnes

dont get me wrong id love to have Big Baby on this team i think he is exactly what we need from the 4, (im just not sure if the Celts will let him go) and he can still improve i think being around Shaq will help him as well, and maybe we can even use Shaq as a selling point ( a fellow LSU alum, and isnt Shaq a hero of sorts to Big Baby). then as Pula said get Matt Barnes and then wait for the Vet Min and see if someone besides Joe Smith will take it

PG Mo Williams/Daniel Gibson
SG Delonte West /Anthony Parker
SF Lebron James/Matt Barnes
PF Big Baby/Varejao/JJ or DJ
C Shaq O'Neal/Big Z/AV

thats a good team and pretty deep as well especialy if we add a vet (id prfer Bruce Bowen if he gets cut, im assuming he will i dont know why a rebulidign team would keep him)

You would start big baby and have 50million dollar varejao come off the bench?

varejao wasnt signed to be the starter...not for this season at least (it would be a horrible train wreck if varejao and shaq are on the court together)

I would. Baby fits better next to Shaq, Vaerjao fits better next to Z.

Varejao may not like it but too bad, he can't complain that much getting $7MM/yr.

I really like Glen Davis and Von Wafer, both would bring some more needed energy.

Realistically we will target guys like Barnes and Kleiza and then look to re-sign Wally and Joe.

I bet we end up with Barnes and Wally, and we'll save whatever part of our exceptions we have left to offer more to a vet player who gets bought out towards the deadline.

Now I was thinking about this and everyone debating whether Parker was signed to be a starter and what PF can we sign to fit and obviously there arenet too many but we have the answer and we are randomly running through rediculous scenarios because all of a sudden Shaq is going to clog up the lanes. And if we had another post prescence it would kill Lebron's offense wellHow do we open that open that up without getting a shooting PF. We get a 3pt killer at SF. If the GForce trade is true this scenario is still likely but I can see a starting lineup on most nights that look like:

Mo
Delonte
Parker
Lebron
Shaq

You have three perimeter players who can shoot close or over 40% from 3pt. Are you really doubling Shaq or Lebron? You put one on each block and they are top passers at their positions. Lebron could hang with most PFs especially since most teams are going smaller and smaller every year. Danny Green should be an immediate impact player learning from the guys above. And whether the GForce trade (I believe all rumor) or we sign someone like Matt Barnes our bench looks like this:

Boobie
Green
Barnes or Gerald Wallace(who shot 37% from 3the last two seasons)
AV
Zydrunas Ilgauskas

I will take this team over most teams because when we were being mismatched against we just became the mismatch team with extreme versatility.

if you guys can get Barnes or Kleiza it is going to be good. I actually prefer Barnes or Kleiza over Parker.

This would be a really good lineup

Mo
Barnes
Kleiza
Lebron
Shaq

A RealGM story just stated the Cavs are looking at Barnes, Kleiza, and Wally. I don't think the Cavs have enough of the MLE to entice Kleiza. It would be great if Barnes would take the BAE and the Nuggets would not match the 2.7 million left of the MLE. If at all possible, I would love to get Glen Davis on this team or sign a Leon Powe who is that hard nosed warrior the Cavs miss. I know we would have to wait for him to get over his injury, but in the playoffs you can never have too many bigs.
