Posey/Baby Longshot Rumor Unverified

Post#1 » by Gant » Sat Jul 11, 2009 6:44 pm

I saw the following on the hornetsreport forum. It is just a message board post and has no further verification. I believe because of the base year compensation issue, this would have to be part of a larger sign and trade.

From poster "CP3 & 11 others":
"I'm telling you we will not sign him (Big Baby). We have offered Posey in a Sign and trade for him according to both my friend who works for the Hornets and my buddy who used to work for us but now works for another team. With Hill going back to PHX I think this possibility went up from 10 percent to 20 percent but is still unlikely."

Posey was next on my wish list after Hill. I know the arguments against him, but he knows our system, plays great team D and is a clutch shooter. Having him back makes us the best team in the league, IMO, just need to replace Baby with a backup big and we're good to go.

what there really needs to be in a video that explains the CBA and general free agent workings of the league so this type of non sense will stop.

They screw us by overpaying Posey and now they want to give his bloated contract back to us and in exchange we give them a young developing big man? No. I'll give them a combination of Pruitt, TA, Scal, Gidden, Walker for Posey, but not Big Baby.

Just quickly glancing over this guy's previous posts- he claims his best friend works as a PR guy for the Cavs. He has posted information about the Cavs a few times recently.

I have no idea if this is legitimate or not, but it doesn't seem over the top. So who knows?

Regardless, supposedly it's the Hornets offering some sort of Posey for Big Baby deal. That would be complicated to do but you can why New Orleans would want it and Boston would be reluctant unless they got more back to compensate them for taking on that contract.

Hornets need to sweeten that deal IMHO. Posey might be a better fit for us but his contract is bad.

Agreed. They need to throw in Wright/Armstrong. I would even expand the deal with TA and Butler. Of course, Baby would be BYC player, so it is hard to make a trade work...

Given the BYC issue, it would just seem really hard to pull off. Posey makes 6 mil, and BBD won't get more than 4 mil (what Bass got), of which we can take back 2 mil. So there's a 4 mil (or at least 3m) gap in additional contracts we have to send out... but nobody is going to want to waste cap space helping us out. Or else both sides have to load up the deal so much to get everything within 25%, but that's also hard, because we don't have that many bad contracts to give out, and I'm not giving up our entire stable of young players just to get Posey back.

I suppose it's possible in theory but it just sounds very far fetched. Especially given that Posey isn't exactly a worldbeater of a player. He's not even a starter caliber guy.

For What It's Worth, I asked "CP3 & 11 others" about the BYC issue and he said: "I was told the most likely version of the trade if Boston accepted would be Big Baby and Tony Allen for Posey."

(I believe you could make that work under the rules if Baby signed for a 4 millionish starting salary.)

But I would want a little more coming back. Maybe a future pick of some sort.

Also "CP3 & 11 others" says he doesn't see Boston's incentive to do this deal (which gives him a little credibilty).

I am an avid member of that board and I get almost all of my information from there..that said, I was coming here to post about the Davis/Allen for Pose possible deal...but I was beat to it...what else would the C's want?? Certainly not a 1st rd pick...how about a couple of 2nd rounders??

The Celtics would need at least a 1st rounder IMO. New Orleans gets to rid themselves of Posey's contract and gets a big that they like to play off their bench. Baby fits in well in the pick + pop game with Paul and he might flourish in that system with Paul creating wide open jumpers for him.

I'd give up a conditional 1st rd pick from the 2012-2013 season or later

TA+Davis for Posey? That is terrible for us! They would have to throw in Wright and Armstrong. Or Butler and we give them Scal.

Posey at this point is a horrible contract. If NO wants to get rid of him they have to sweeten the deal...

Sign and Trade:

Boston trades Big Baby ($6.0 million/$3.0 BYC), Tony Allen ($2.5), House ($2.86), Pruitt ($0.825) and Walker ($0.85) = $10.035 million

New Orleans trades: Posey ($6.0 million) and Daniels ($6.6 million) = $12.600 million

Celtics new roster:

PG: Rondo, Daniels, Hudson
SG: R. Allen, Giddens
SF: Pierce, Posey
PF: Garnett, Scalabrine
C: Perkins, Wallace

Celtics still have the $1.9 bi-annual and vet mins. to fill out the rest of the roster.

Posey/Armstrong/Brown
4
Davis/Allen/Scalabrine/Giddens

Hornets waive Scalabrine

Hornets new roster:

PG - Paul/Collison/Giddens
SG - Butler/Thornton/Allen
SF - Peja/Wright/Peterson
PF - West/Davis/FA
C - Chandler/FA

We'd package Daniels with something to add another piece by the deadline

Nah, we'd need Julian Wright in that deal. No Wright, no deal.

Frankly, after passing on Posey because of the 4th year, and then later signing Wallace w/the same money we would have used on Posey, I don't see where the money or the motivation for this deal is coming from.

if the Hornets want to clean up their mistake, they're going to have to make it worth our while. That means young players (like Wright, or Darren Collison), or first round picks.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

I'm just here for the memes.
