Well, I get the award for the loser Suns fan of the week/month/possibly year... I obviously meant Ben Wallace... must have overpaid undertalented 2 guards on the brain... probably bc we still have JRich on the Suns... ;)

If we had a decent Mod that policed the boards properly, you would think he would change the title of the thread. :lol:

Was I meant to use green font there? :lol:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Hous ... on_Rule.22

The most striking innovation granted NBA teams a one-time option to release a player without his contract counting against the luxury tax threshold regardless of how long or how rich the contract was

The provision did not negate the player's contract, a team's obligation to pay the player, or the impact on the salary cap; it merely removed the player's salary when computing the luxury tax

Interesting. I would imagine there would have been time restrictions on this rule... it couldn't have been for the entire run of the current CBA could it? If so, have the Suns used theirs already?

That said, Suns don't have a bad big man rotations: Amare, Frye, Lou, Lopez, and Clark. All these guys are 6-10 or taller (save Lou, but he can jump) and can play both center and power forward.

I don't know what Wilcox costs but Stro at the min, with the rebate, is $800,000

nevetsov wrote:Nah i'm pretty sure the $14 mill counts towards the cap, but after a buyout, not the tax. The agreed buyout (say $10m) is what the team pays to the player.

SO our cap figure will still be $78mill (meaning we can only use the MLE, LLE etc to sign players) but our salary for tax purposes would be about $64mill.

So before buyout = $78mill salary-> $8 mill tax = $86 mill

After buyout = $64 mill + $10mill buyout = $74 mill (cap figure would still 'read' $78mill).

I'm pretty sure that's how it works..

I recall one of the more schooled lads on another thread telling us this is exactly how it works. The original contract stays in the salary cap computations but is adjusted for the lux tax. And that's why teams do it.
