Suns center?

Post#1 » by statisback » Sun Jul 12, 2009 12:43 am

So now.. we have a bunch of SF and PF but only Lopez as a true center. Do you see a trade coming to get the Suns a defensive center?
I hear Johan Petro is available from FA. Would be a decent pickup

i dont see any more changes coming this summer with the suns.

After

Extension of Nash
Re-Signing of Hill
Signing Of Frye

Kerr and Sarver just want to compete to sell tix. and hopefully rebuild after nash and stoudemire are off the team.

Until that happens I dont see us Blowing up anything.

Although I like the idea of getting a Center. But why even waste the money if we are not going to win a championship this year? I say compete and save up. Then Explode the team into a Dynasty.

If Frye can gain 10-15 lbs he should be okay at 'center'... If we were in the East w/ Shaq, D How and Perkins he would get physically dominated but w/ Yao out and us running he should be fine in the West imo :D

LOL.. CHanning is more like a SF than even a center. He is too soft to be center.

If we don't do anything like it's been said, most likely be Amare or Lopez (god please no) at C.

The SUNS have a sufficient rotation of big men and there is no need to get any more bigs. Last year they had 3 actual bigs (remember, Amare was injured) and 1 makeshift small-forward turned power forward (Barnes).

This season, they have 5 solid big men who are NOT playing out of position. Call Frye what you want, but he is a center because he has length and ability to switch off on pick-n-roll in the paint situations.

And Earl Clark is a power forward, not a small forward. He is 6-10 225, approximately what Amare was when he first got into the league. Coro specifically said the Suns drafted Clark because they want him to play power forward in the Gentry system, which works very well. In fact, Clark is like an Amare Jr. so to speak. He has power forward stud written all over him.

LAST YEAR:

C = Shaq, Lopez
PF = Barnes, Amundson

THIS YEAR:

C = Frye, Lopez
PF = Amare, Amundson, Clark

It is incredible some of you are actually typing the words Johan Petro at this point!

Clark can be a SF or PF in our system. I don't buy it was for just one specific position.

I think we need another rotation guy - read into that - as a guy that can commit 6 fouls against guys like Duncan, Gasol, Bynum, the Dallas rotation, the guys in Portland - etc

So, I still would like to see a Wilcox or other veteran brought in for the minimum to have those 6 extra fouls to help Frye and R-Lo on defense.

Its really too bad Ben Wallace is probably not even good for 25-30 games anymore as he would fill that role nicely. But of course if Ben plays, the team doesn't save whatever his buyout savings is - $8m, So, money wise, it might be better to sign a veteran for the minimum $1.2m, and buyout Ben Wallace too.

As some said...

Suns do not need Chandler (damaged goods)
Or Dalembert (dumb player)

Frye as a jump shooting big man is fine... his length is sufficient to play center.
Lopez's is Suns biggest player, say what you will, HE IS good for a couple of blocks and 5 reboundws a game providing some energy.
Stoudemire will be primary big offensively.

Clark SHOULD be fine as PF.... 225 6'10 7'2 wingspan... 9'2 standing reach. Thats Odom-esque. Good enough to be PF for a run and gun... he can play Defense a bit too.

My sleeper pick is sweet Looouuuuuu... especially if has figured out how to hit a jump shot.

- Big (wide)
- Strong
- Agile
- Mobile
- Can Rebound/ Block shots
- Can do thw Dirty Work

Right now i'd say he's a Kurt Thomas sans the jump shot and crazy eyes.

RoLo - 7'1"
Frye - 6'11"
Amare - 6'10"
Clark - 6'10"
Frye and Clark 'reaches' are over 7' + Lou is a banger we'll be fine

Lol I am pinching myself. I never thought my team would be vastly improved by ,or in need of Johan Petro as a starter.

But I agree, Frye is soft, Lopez is terrible and we could use another rotation player.

Is Big Ben really that far gone? I remember worshiping him on the Pistons. Starting with how he came up as the youngest sibling, then his roundabout path to the NBA...beastly defense. Are we sure our miracle medical staff can't rehab him? He would be quite nice next to Amar'e IMO.

Frye - plays like 6'7
Amar'e - no post D
Clark - rookie
RoLo - really?

I mean not to diminish your point but I just don't see this as a complete post rotation

How many guys over 6'10" have consistent mpg for us over the last 5 years? Amare, Shaq, Kurt Thomas and Steven Hunter....? That's how many we'll have this year. Marion and Diaw were 6'8" and 6'9" We've been very successful w/o true big-men in our system, but we are young which will hurt us
