Relatively comprehensive list of FA small forwards...

Code: Select all

Player             Team  FA  Age
     ...already signed...
Ron Artest          LAL   S   29
Trevor Ariza        HOU   S   23
Hedo Turkoglu       TOR   S   30
Shawn Marion        DAL   S   31
Grant Hill          PHX   S   36
...will get more than Cs can give...
Josh Childress      ATL   R   25
Marvin Williams     ATL   R   22
Jamario Moon        MIA   R   28
Linas Kleiza        DEN   R   24
   ...realistic options...
Matt Barnes         PHX   U   29
Ime Udoka           SAS   U   31
Walter Herrmann     DET   U   29
Wally Szczerbiak    CLE   U   32
Desmond Mason       OKC   U   31
Joey Graham         TOR   U   26
Stephen Graham      IND   U   26
I think Barnes and Udoka are most realistic. Both can play SF, a little SG and wing-PF (against guys like Lewis). Both can hit open 3-pointers.

They guy that would be perfect is Shane Battier. Is there any way we could get him? Maybe for Baby and a pick? Is Ariza going to take his starting spot this year?

Battier can play the SG, and the Rockets don't need Glen Davis. They have plenty PFs already.

people don't understand trading baby in a sign and trade would be hard because of CBA rules. He only maked like .8m last year, so if he gets more then like 1.1m, he's byc and is hard to trade.

the talk of sign and trades was guys signing and coming to us for ending deals and late round picks. (like we did with walker)

Are the Rockets looking to cut payroll or are they trying to get rid of Battier to make room for Ariza? Otherwise, I don't see how we get him, because they don't need BBD and we do need to keep him. But if we can get him for Scal, Tony, Walker, Pruitt or a combination like that, I'm all for it.

I think giddens or walker bring as much as the graham bros although Joey graham is certainly a veteran player with experience. Moon or Barnes would be nice pickups as woud cj miles. whoever we get needs to be able to hit the three

Barnes does nothing for me because he doesn't fill the need we have. We need one of two things either a long SF who can defend to play about 18 mpg right now, or a young wing to fill that role and capable of becoming a starter in year or two.

I don't know a ton about him but the guy who seems like he could be the win now guy is Ime Udoka. He has started and been effective and then has come of the bench on a championship caliber team and been effective. He can shoot the 3 rebound for a SF and obviously he wouldn't be playing for Pop if he didn't defend. He had kind of down year and likely is not in the cards for SA with their moves.
